Ending you would like ?

ENDING I LIKE : Caviezel has vivid recent memories of working with the crooks & the final plan to kill & bury the 2 hostages and dead security guard (dig a hole big enough for 3 people) - his instinctive cop loyalty gets transplanted onto his new gang so he flips super nasty evil on Pepper & Kinnear at the last moment - much to their shock & horror - there is no begging , just jaw dropping terror in their realisation that he really is bad , as Caviezel executes them and kicks them into the pit.

This is witnessed by the 2 cops by the fence , who Caviezel sees as they are shot at and wounded by the pickup truck bloke. No backup arrives in time allowing the gang to drive off into the night. Stormare points out that their cuts are now much larger & they chuckle like pirates.

NOW for the good bit : the sun is coming up as the exhausted but relieved gang are shown driving , obviously hundreds of miles away by now. Caviezel wearily looks out the passenger window & sees something (anything) that jolts his full memory back . The final shot zooms away from the side window of the pickup with Caviezel still looking out - his wide eyed expression frozen like someone who has s h i t their pants really bad but does not want anyone to know - zoom away to pickup driving on relentlessly into the rising desert sun.
