I have seen some posts that claim that his is a vampire movie, that is simply not the case. since when do wampire resurrect animals and prolong human life.
In my humble opinion, this is a Necromancer.
There's a lot of variation in Vampire lore these days. He may well be a Necromancer as you say, but he's certainly some form of Vampire, as he needs fresh blood from the living to sustain himself. As the legend goes, Vlad Dracula was once a man, maybe he used the same black magic to become a vampire?
