What is the purpose of Michael Fassbender in this movie?

I watch this movie because I found out that Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender are in this movie? However, I can't see Michael Fassbender's face and understand his German for almost the entire movie. The movie is too dark. I am quite disappointed.

May be they were not yet famous then?

He was famous. That's why his role is very small and he's top billed and probably got paid a lot for a day's work.

I highly doubt he's still playing the main character as soon as he's in makeup. That's an old movie ploy.

Edit: Actually I might be mistaken. I did a little looking around and it does seem this was before he broke out more. I don't see a listing for someone else playing the main bad dude in the costume. Maybe it really is him the whole time and that's why he has higher billing.

If you look hard enough, you can tell in a lot of the scenes after he's taken the mask off that it is really him.

Yes, this was before he was well known. Up until Blood Creek was shot around '07-08, Fassbinder was primarily doing tv series' in the UK other than a few smaller parts in movies. But his name was already getting around as an up-and-comer at that time.

I saw the film completely for him, and it was a bit weird seeing this brilliant, acclaimed actor take on what was essentially a "movie monster" type of role in a horror film. But if you check out the filming dates for the movie, it actually started filming before his very first film, 300, had even been released. So he was definitely not famous at the time that he made this.

Well his name being on the cast list got me to visit this board

I guess I should bit the bullet and finally see this one.

Hi
Michael Fassbender was in most of the film at the beginning and when the masked man was ressurected again as it was him under all that make up as his voice changed sometimes and as the mast comes off you can recognise him underneath it all as I have seen the film

Fassbender was the guy in the mask. Here are some pictures of him getting all that lovely makeup on.

Maybe this could be answered by the same logic as Michael Caine used about his appearance in JAWS-3D. This is one of the most derided films of the modern era, and an interviewer asked him: Had he ever seen it?
Caine replied: No I haven't.
But I have seen the swimming pool it bought, and that I can assure you, is quite wonderful.

this is on tv right now. Its pretty fricking horrible

Altho to be fair if he had he wouldn't have been as scary.

It's neat seeing pre-fame Michael Fassbender in this. It's kind of a time capsule. The filmmakers got a lucky break in a way, as I'm sure many of the people who have watched the film have done so strictly because Fassbender was in it (Though there might be a resurgence with Cavill being cast as Superman)

But Fassbender isn't the first. I purchased Project: Kill from a dvd bargain bin solely because it had a pre-comedy fame Leslie Nielsen as a James Bondesque kung fu spy matching wits with Gary Lockwood of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The movie is terrible, but Nielsen is excellent. Still, it's totally bizarre to see Dr. Rumack and Frank Drebin in such a serious part.

I love to love my Lisa.

I honestly saw the movie because I love Henry Cavill :) I watched him in Tristan and Isolde and Stardust and thought he was cute
