You're watching it wrong

In case you didn't listen to the 'How Did This Get Made' podcast about this movie, I highly recommend checking it out.

Lexi Alexander turned this movie into a live-action cartoon which I wholeheartedly embraced. The original plan was to make a realistic and gritty Punisher movie based in reality. This would be a cool movie, but before she signed on, a young man at Virginia Tech decided to go on a shooting spree.

What does this have to do with the violence and dialogue in the film being blatantly cartoonist? Lexi Alexander saw the V-Tech shooter's room on television only to find he
was a huge fan of the Punisher. In order to avoid someone being inspired to go on a murder spree because the Punisher reboot wanted to be like the Dark Knight.

Punisher: War Zone is meant to just be a fun movie for which you simply have to turn off your mind. It's a beautifully shot, well choreographed and well directed B-movie. Embrace the insanity and laugh at the stupidity

I mean 7 minutes into this movie, a 90 year old man is decapitated and his wife's neck is broken by the Punisher. He then goes on to murder EVERYONE. Just have fun with the movie. It's stupid as hell but it's undoubtedly one of the most fun, dumb and BONKERS movies ever made. So enjoy. Don't overly criticize

HDTGM did change my mind about Alexander herself, BUT nothing will ever change my mind about Hutchinson's f_@#$ng ridiculous Looney Bin Jim. He made West seem subtle.

They made the film wrong. Admitting as much 8 years after rightfully being destroyed critically and financially doesn't change a thing. And I say this as someone that unabashedly loves the films people continually try to say that this draws from. Imitating something does not mean you've captured its charm.

reply

Thats utter bollocks to be fair. If they were too scared to tackle the film's themes and characters, they shouldn't have been anywhere near it.

Crazy people, do crazy stuff for lots of mad reasons. Comics and movies aren't to blame.

I'm not watching it wrong. I've loved this movie sinc the first time I laid eyes on it. Same way I love Riki-Oh. Same way I love Dead Alive. When I saw they did an HDTGM podcast I was hoping they would get it. And I'm glad they got it. Dumb fun that's fun to watch.

"Turn your brain off and enjoy it" is never a good reason to enjoy anything. That's just a way of saying the movie is all style over substance. Even by the standard of style over substance, Punisher: War Zone is still awful beyond belief. It's bad style that misses all the fun of the comics it's adapting.

You evidently don't understand The Punisher. He doesn't murder, he executes murderers and other hardcore thugs because he's at war against all serious criminals.
