Hostel / Torture Porn

Well, I've sat through this turkey more than a half-a-dozen times. (And, "Hostel 2", about 3 or 4 times...) The original "Hostel" (2005) & "Saw" (2004) are in my opinion, the first main-stream "Torture Porn" films. What this film did for the Czech Republic's tourism trade is, I suppose the same thing that "Midnight Express" (1978) did for tourism in Turkey!

It is a VERY effective scare!

The most thrilling scenes are subtle. -When you are not seeing violence you are expecting to see violence! "Hostel 2" is a good follow-up if you like this type of stuff...

The "Rest Stop" films are in the same vein...

I can only say this: Viewing this type of material for any length of time can mess with yer head!

Yes, I watched this several years ago and didn't really get it. I thought there was nothing more to it except sex and violence. But today I decided to give it another chance and it was so much better than I originally thought. The idea that someone could accidentally stumble into something like this is pretty creepy. I also liked seeing how the main character matured. He went from an immature college kid without a care in the world besides sex to someone who had to fight for his life and save someone else's in the process. I really enjoyed seeing how he changed from the beginning of the film to the end. I don't know how I missed it before.

But anyways, after watching this a second time I raised my rating from a 4 to a 7.
