Need some clarification with the ending

If Solomon was photographed by Maddy going through the diamond exchange (which funds conflict), wouldn't it make more sense for him to be viewed negatively as a participant by the people at the conference? Or was he viewed positively because he did it to get his family back and start a new life?

reply

Van de Kamp denied trading in blood diamonds from war torn Sierra Leone. Maddy' s article exposed Van de Kamp and brought the plight of the people in Sierra Leone to the people's attention. I guess technically Solomon and Maddy could be prosecuted for diamond smuggling but then they would have to prosecute Van de Kamp also.

I imagine he'd be seen not only as a victim of the violence in Sierra Leone with his slavery in the diamond mines, and what happened to his son, but with Maddys help he also became a sort of whistle blower on the whole Van de Kap thing. He didn't just tell his story after selling the diamond, they set it up so maddy would be documenting the whole sale with the purpose of exposing it all.

Right answer !!

Solomon found the diamond himself and the RUF bastards didn't profit from it.
I'm also sure he donated the £2 million to a Sierra Leone relief charity ;-)
