Danny and Maddy romance / relationship

I liked the way this film portrayed the relationship between Danny and Maddy without spoiling it with cheesy lines, unnecessary romantic gestures or love scenes, like they do in most movies nowadays. Their bond becomes more apparent in the second half of the film, before they depart from each other, although still subtle and careful. It kinda captured that reluctance people have when travelling abroad and they meet new people they know nothing about, and even if they feel attracted to them, they don't pursue anything other than what it feels appropriate and natural. I mostly liked the director's idea of replacing kisses with hands holding throughout the film. The way Jennifer Connelly gently pulls and then rubs Leo DiCaprio's hand after his hurtful confessions melted my heart (the scene where they are talking on the veranda at night drinking palm wine from a milk plastic bottle). It made it feel genuine, didn't it?
