Quick question(Plothole-Spo iler)..

In the last scene when jack is in the basement of the court, the villain guy could have just shot him in the basement itself rather than letting him go and telling one of his partners to shoot him. If it is true, then that is the most outrageous plotholes in a film. I feel that i am wrong here. Somebody explain.

IMO that is no plothole.
Over the years the David Morse-character got used to pass the responsibility onto others (like, it was the old man's own fault he had to have him killed).
So he decided, to let the fat cop do the dirty work.
And that way, he would have still been able to tell himself, "He was my fried, man. I couldn't just kill him in cold blood. So I gave him one last chance, to come to his senses."
This scene works, characterwise.

Nobody likes you. Everybody hates you. You're gonna lose. Smile, you f.ck.

Definitely NOT a plot hole! Through much of the movie, you see Nugent, who was Jack's partner of 20 years standing, try and talk Jack into surrendering Eddie, or let others try and gun him down. He didn't want to do it himself and couldn't do it, when they were 1 on 1 in the basement. Nugent's behaviour was consistent.🐭
