Gautnlet (1977) v. 16 Blocks (2006)

Am I crazy or is Gauntlet with Clint Eastwood the same as the 16 Blocks? Cops trying escort witness to trial with dirty cops trying to stop him, with bus scene and everything, but no mention of remake or anything? I know I know there are differences, but in general same movie, why no credit to Gauntlet for remake? I have seen other movies for example The Ladykillers was a remake? Why is this not considered a remake?

reply

Well... I take yer point... there's a bus... and a jailhouse witness who becomes his buddy. So... OK.

But 'remake' is a bit of a stretch. You may be one of about 100 people who actually =remember= The Gauntlet (and that includes Clint and his ex). :D

reply

No, you are not crazy. As soon as I read the description for the movie I thought the same. Exact same story concept.

Even though The Gauntlet was filmed almost 30 years earlier, I found 16 Blocks to be just a mite more realistic in its execution. But there are a lot of similarities including one you forgot ... both detectives are alcoholics, though again Willis's, IMO is the most realistic portrayal.🐭

Late to this but just watched 16, so....
Sure, Willis was more " realistic" , but Bruce has made a good career out of world weary. Clint was always. Always. Always...a badass. And a darn good one. Actually right around this time he really started to delve into the comedy films that did pretty good BO and I think Sondra Locke may have gotten him little more into directing. I think that was more her vision ATT , but I could remembering wrong.
Either way, neither are great. This - 16 - was surprisingly tight until the crisis of conscience moments that made up the last 20 min.
But Gauntlet had a way better Frank Frazetta movie poster !
