but i am watching this movie as i type, and this movie creeps me out. maybe i don't watch asian movies much, (i don't) but this movie scares me! like no american movie has since i was like, ten! i have a DVD with a triple feature, and the first movie is the unborn, which is a VERY good movie. and this one, i can't say is a great movie, but it is a good one, and i like it. i just have to thank god for subtitles!

Sorry for the delay in posting. I just got my computer back today.

Anyways... I thought the movie was just dumb. There was a creepy part here and there, but overall the majority of the film was wasted potential. That's my view on it anyways.

It's been a while since I saw it, though, so maybe I should view it again, just to refresh my memory. But from what I remember, I didn't like it.

"How did you find this?"

I have been getting in Asian Horror quite a bit more lately, and have been revisiting some old films I remember from my Japanese kick back a year ago. The Sisters was one of them. So I came on here to see what it had as a rating. Rotten Tomatoes doesn't even have a listing for it... pretty strange.

Hope you didn't forget about me :p

P.S. ...the ending? Eh... Yeah I have to watch it again. I completely forget =(

i did not forget about u! i've been waiting for your reply, lol. i think the movie could've been more detailed, gone more in depth, it was left too mysterious for me. i don't really watch asian movies much, but someone gave us their collection of dvd's, and this one was part of a triple feature, with one other thai movie, and then an american one. i forgot what that one was called. but its about some guy going to s psychiatric hospital, turns out he has dis-associative personality disorder, or something to that effect. weird movie too. anyway, yeah, i also like this movie identity, have u seen that one?? i like it a lot! leaves me with a weird feeling every time i watch it.

Sorry to keep you waiting, lol.

Ah I see. Good points, very good points indeed.

Was this Thai film called "H" by any chance? No idea what it's about, but I was thinking maybe, since it seems that the person in it has some mental disorder where he can take on someone else's persona entirely...something like that.

You should try to find out the name of it since I might want to try it out :P

Here are some Asian horror/psychological thrillers that I enjoyed very much:

OldBoy
A Tale of Two Sisters
Shutter

The first two aren't horror, but they are very well-made and well worth your time (if you can't stomach blood and gore and some very unsettling themes, you may want to be hesitant with OldBoy). A Tale of Two Sisters is my favorite of the three. It has fantastic acting, great writing, great editing, and some really nice twists, especially the finale. Just a good movie.

Shutter is getting an American remake released in a couple weeks =| But anyways, this is quite possibly the scariest film I've ever seen. It has some terrifying scenes and segments that stick with you for a while, and the last 20 or 30 minutes really get under your skin, especially the final twist. Holy crap, it is a creepy movie.

Of course I don't know you or your taste in Film very well, so I can't say for sure if you will enjoy these much at all, but I hope you take these recommendations to heart since they are among my favorites to come from the Asian horror line of movies (even though two of them aren't really :P)

What kinds of movies DO you like? What are your favorites? =)

the thai film that was the first one on the triple feature, was called the unborn, that one was good, it was intriguing, and a nice look, for me anyway, into some thai culture, and beliefs. i liked it a lot, the other movie, that was american, is madhouse. weird that they put 2 thai movies, and then one american one. i was expecting a third thai movie in that triple feature! i liked the unborn, and madhouse more than this movie. i've heard of shutter, and now that u talk about it more, i wanna see it so bad! i saw that there's an american remake coming out soon, i'm sure, its nothing like the asian one, remakes are never better. its like, trying to remake gone with the wind, impossible! i will take your recommendations to heart, my mom likes to watch asian movies, and the way she describes them, tells me that they are good movies, and from the way u type, u also sound like u know what u're talking about.

what kind of movies do i like? wow! i like so many different types of movies, i love horror, first and foremost, comedy, romantic comedy, thrillers. i can name a few that i like, i like gone with the wind (who doesn't?), i like the saw series, the first one was better than the rest of course, but i like them...i like wayne's world 1&2, kingpin, the birdcage with robin williams, so funny. i like all kinds of different types of movies. i have to say though, i'm not a fan of star wars, gets on my nerves. i like lord of the rings. i'm so open to movies, except one, that my husband loves, run, ronnie, run. i find that movie ridiculously stupid, and not worth my viewing time. that kind of comedy is not my favorite. but yeah, name some movies! i have a hard time coming up with good ones off the top of my head....i like the color purple....pay it forward, love that one. mississippi burning, willem dafoe is good. a time to kill, love it. name some movies, and let's see if i've seen them, u seem like u've seen a lot more movies than i have, lol.

reply

Ah, yes. Strange... I was just reading about that one a few hours ago, lol. I will definitely check it out.

Madhouse? Hm... strange... Sounds interesting.

Well my least favorite genre is Science Fiction. Favorite is Drama. I don't enjoy comedies much anymore since I feel no intelligent comedies ever come out anymore. I just detest the new ones coming out lately.

Favorite films:

1. SAW series / Ratatouille
2. There Will Be Blood
3. Memento
4. American History X
5. 2001: A Space Odyssey
6. Children of Men
7. Tsotsi
8. Requiem for a Dream
9. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
10. Gandhi

I love the SAW series, and all James Wan films, immensely. The first one was the best, but SAW IV: The Director's Cut actually almost tops it for me. I love all of them damn near equally, though. SAW II not as much, but I still like it. It's rather blasphemous in the film community to love such mediocre movies and put them in front of such amazing movies as There Will Be Blood, but there is a personal connection I have with the first SAW film that makes me forget about its obvious faults and just love them. No idea why...but I do.

Drama is my favorite genre by a long shot. I love serious movies that make you think. Complex films that are really masterful works of art (like There Will Be Blood). ...I just love Drama.

Horror is okay, but I don't love it. Asian horror, yes, but not much American horror. I appreciate it a lot more when directors don't use much blood and don't feel it's necessary to do so to get their messages across. If they use too much blood...well I lose respect for them. Rob Zombie is one such fellow. I hate his work now that I see how one-sided and gratuitous it all is.

Psychological Thrillers are my second favorite genre. I love twists (as you can probably see :P), and complicated movies, so these are usually some of my favorites as well.

Lastly, Documentaries are among my three favorite genres. I just love them. I especially love mockumentaries. Christopher Guest's films are very entertaining and quite funny to me. This Is Spinal Tap is probably my favorite of his filmography, though. My favorite documentary is probably Night and Fog. Unsettling, and not the best movie to watch when you want to be happy...but it is very important, and I do love it (if that isn't a bad thing to say).

Favorite directors: Stanley Kubrick, James Wan, Christopher Nolan

Favorite actors: Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Casey Affleck (I do need to broaden my horizons a bit in this area)

Favorite actresses: Cate Blanchett, Evan Rachel Wood, Rachel McAdams

And...I could really go on forever about all my favorite films, lol.

Do you like Drama much?

my favorite actors! let's see

actor: john travolta (more of a crush really), christian bale, joaquin phoenix, guy pearce, bill murray....heath too, ben stiller, owen wilson, and luke wilson, vince vaughn. and theres others too.

actress: not many, lol, sarah michelle geller, rachel mcadams, used to like lindsay lohan before she became a crack whore, oh, jamie lee curtis, i love her. let's see.....natalie portman.....jennifer aniston...and thats it really, not many women i like. i hate jennifer love hewitt, don't know why.

i actually like rob zombie, as a musician more than a director, though house of a thousand corpses was good for me, freaked me out, like, omg, ew. i like blood and stuff. i do like drama, i just don't know what constitutes a drama. i don't know what genre goes into what, lol, i feel stupid. i don't really watch newer comedies, maybe a ben stiller movie, or an owen wilson movie. have u seen the movie the jacket with adrien brody? that was good, but i don't know if its a thriller, or a drama, most likely a thriller? i don't know, lol. i like to re-watch movies, comedies. i still love wayne's world, every chance i get, i watch. i love the birdcage, that movie, i never get tired of. so what constitutes a drama? is mississippi burning a drama? a time to kill? i like those. i like twists too! like that movie written by stephen king, the mist or something, no one really liked it much, but when i saw the end, i was like, "oh u sick twisted *beep*, stephen king," lol. and i was like no wonder no one liked the movie! lol but yeah, i like most movies i watch. i just watched the english patient for the first time last night! i never watched it, cuz i always heard negative things about it, but i liked it, and i forgot to mention, i like ralph fiennes too. and, i forgot edward norton, he is so good.

=( Talking about Heath Ledger makes me really sad now. Still not over him leaving.

I do admit that my likeness for Rachel McAdams may be more of an attraction, but she is still a great actress :P

I dislike Rob Zombie's music (not my cup of tea), but I hate his directing even more. Like I said, he resorts to gratuitous blood, nudity, and language for no good reason. He makes movies to shock people, not make them actually think. I don't like that at all. Really lazy in my eyes. No offense of course.

See, I don't like many Ben Stiller movies anymore. They just come off as immature to me =/ Mindless comedy = Paul no likey =( Again, no offense.

Yes I have. I loved it. I would classify that as a Psychological Thriller, actually. I might be wrong, but that seems to be the right description for it.

Well it's hard to say what exactly constitutes a Drama. Most films have elements from Drama in them. Complex characters, symbolism aplenty, ...When I think of Drama, I also think of "Art". When someone makes a Drama, they usually work hard. Dramas usually have a deep message, character development, symbolism...etc.

Rather ashamedly, I'm not familiar with those films you listed.. I don't know if they are Drama or not.

Usually, you can't have a great Drama unless it is longer than 1 hour 45 minutes. Shorter than that, and it will most likely have inadequate character development, and would just seem sloppy. Good Dramas are done masterfully with lots of work put into them. Some great dramas I can think of (that most people really can't sit through because they're too long of movies :|):

Brokeback Mountain
Taxi Driver
2001: A Space Odyssey
Titanic
The Godfather
Eastern Promises
Children of Men
There Will Be Blood
Atonement
Mulholland Drive
Zodiac
Memento
The Fountain
Half Nelson
American History X
Requiem for a Dream
Schindler's List
The Color Purple
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
The English Patient
21 Grams
Maria Full of Grace
Pan's Labyrinth
L'Age D'Or

...eh, I could go on forever.

There are some exceptions to that length rule I talked about, but for the most part, these films are usually over even 2 hours long.

In addition, the heaviest and most depressing films, you will most definitely find to be Dramas.

The Mist was fantastic. I loved the whole movie, its message, and that ending just blew my mind (no pun intended... oh..that was a bit tasteless, lol). It was one of the only endings of a movie where I could literally feel my stomach drop. It was so devastating, but since I love endings like that, I was quite impressed with it.

Oh and to be fair, I believe The Mist was based off of a short story by Stephen King, but was in fact written for the screen by Frank Darabont who also directed the movie. I could be wrong, though, but I'm too lazy to check right now :P If not Frank, someone else wrote the screenplay. Not Stephen King :P

The English Patient. One of the best films ever made. Seriously, I really loved it. Not in my Top 10 yet, but I did love it an incredible amount. The pacing was a tad slow as per many peoples' comments, but I still rather enjoyed it.

I like to watch some movies where I don't have to pay attention, but I don't make it a daily habit of mine :P

I re-watch pretty much all my movies, no matter how difficult they are to watch, I still watch them over again. I just love Film, what can I say? :P

Edward Norton is fantastic. I forgot Ryan Gosling, too. He's another one of my favorites.

P.S. In response to your last post, yes I've seen Identity. I liked it a lot, but there was something about it that I didn't like very much at all. I can't quite put my finger on it...but there was something... (sounds like my comment about The Sisters, lol)

P.P.S. I'm sorry for typing so much.

ok, i see. a time to kill and mississippi burning are dramas then, u should definitely watch them, i recommend them.

i have seen brokeback mountain, loved it, i've seen titanic though i'm not a fan of that one, when i saw it, i hated leonardo, i was not impressed with his acting abilities, until i saw the beach. the godfather, i watched for the first time a few years ago, quite good movies i must say, lol, but of course u know that. i just saw the fountain a few nights ago, i really liked it, very long, but liked it, i like long movies. is the green mile a drama? i like that movie too, and the shawshank redemption. and to go down your list, let's see american history x, i saw that a few years ago too, i didn't get to finish it unfortunately, i fell asleep, not cuz it was boring, but because i was tired, lol. but i liked what i saw. i loved schindler's list, i thought it was fabulously made. the color purple, i own on DVD, and i love love love love it, lol. and the english patient, i just saw, and pan's labyrinth, i loved that movie, it was so good.

i knew the mist was based on one of stephen king's short stories. i just didn't know if he adapted it for the screen or not, because he gave an interview for it, which he never does, give interviews i mean. i am a huge fan of his writings. i have 3 favorites that i re read every chance i get. just like i like long movies, i like long, fat, thick books, lol. i love ben stiller, lol, night at the museum was so fun! i didn't like dick van dyke as the mean old man though, lol, i was used to him in his show with mary tyler moore, and in mary poppins, lol. but he did good. wedding crashers was good, with rachel mcadams! it was cute, and very long, lol. ryan gosling, in, numbers, with sandra bullock, i think that was him, he creeped me out, so i think he was successful in that role. and he's cute, lol. and he also did a movie where he was a jewish skin head? oxymoron if i ever heard one! he's a good actor that guy.

there was something about identity i didn't like either, but i like the movie, it feels as if something is missing, no? i like blood diamond too...thought that was good, i think leonardo did a good job, i was impressed. have u seen sublime? please tell me u have!! i'd like to get your opinions on it, i've read other ppls on the posts, but i want to hear what u think. and don't worry about typing so much, i love to hear what u have to say!

I've heard about them. Is A Time To Kill directed by Alfred Hitchcock?

Leonardo DiCaprio has improved greatly over the years. His performance in Blood Diamond was quite good.

I love long movies just because they are usually the much more meaningful films out there. They are mostly very good, too.

The Green Mile is absolutely a Drama. Forgot to put that one down, lol. The Shawshank Redemption is also a Drama. Both are hardcore Drama. Nothing else :P I love both of them immensely.

You need to finish American History X. I mean... you NEED to finish it :P

I'm not a huge fan of Stephen King, myself. I like most movies based on his work, but other than that, I don't really like him too much, no offense.

Night at the Museum is probably my favorite Ben Stiller movie. It was actually quite entertaining for me.

I liked Wedding Crashers, actually. One of the few newer comedies that I like.

I haven't seen Murder By Numbers. I don't think I really want to, either, to be honest.

Ryan Gosling is quite a cutie, not gonna' lie :P

I did see Sublime, actually. It is a very odd movie that had a very very creepy and surreal atmosphere. The lead actor did okay in his role, but the acting from everyone else was rather sketchy. The ending was very good, but I didn't like anything else too much. I'd say that deserves a 4/10. It felt a lot like Jacob's Ladder, and in a way that could be a good thing... but when almost everything about the storyline is the same, sans the setting, that is lazy, and I don't appreciate or respect that much.

No offense, of course =)

i just looked up a time to kill, and theres one from 1955, cool, lol, but the one i saw is from 1996, i'll give u the address in 2 seconds...http://imdb.com/title/tt0117913/

there, haha, its with Samuel L. Jackson, i liked it a lot. and mississippi burning is with gene hackman, and willem dafoe.

i agree with u, leonardo has gotten better, and i think he can only get better and better.

no offense taken, but, how can u not like his books! lol, the stand is simply a masterpiece, i tell u, its one of his best ever. so good, it cannot be made into a movie. and its not horror, its not disgusting, some parts are ew, but not like, u know what i mean. its a good read, is all i have to say, its tied number one next to the pillars of the earth by ken follet.

i have to finish american history x, i know, lol, someone told me about the ending, but i know i have to see it.

murder by numbers, isn't the greatest movie, but ryan gosling plays his role well. scares me to think that there are actually ppl like that out there, teenagers no less.

i've never seen jacob's ladder, i wanna see it now. i agree the lead actor played his role well, but the others, weren't as good i think, and everyone is ugly in that movie, lol, i know not everyone has to be attractive, but, yeah, just my opinion. lol

Not much of a reader, sorry. The only books I read, aside from non-fiction, are Harry Potter and Cirque Du Freak. I will try this book "The Stand" since you're recommending it. But I can't promise that I will be able to read it for a while :P

Oh no...they told you what happens at the end? D:

What were your thoughts on the actual film, though?

It's never nice to judge a movie by its unattractive actors and actresses, lol. I actually highly respect directors that take actresses that aren't the most perfect-looking women out there and put them in their movies. It's nice to see that sex appeal isn't the only thing on the director's mind. Gives the movies a more gritty and natural feel usually, too.

Just my opinion of course :P

Sorry I haven't responded for a while. I've been really tired lately, and very busy with stuff, so I haven't really had the time. Thank you for PM'ing me, though =)

u must try it out!

i think what i was trying to say about leonardo, and did not explain myself, but i was thinking it, was, he's aging gracefully, and is adapting well to older roles.

as long as u try to read it, it might be a little boring at the beginning, because he's describing a lot of things, but if u can pull through it, i promise, it does get better. it was so good, that, here's a little spoiler, if u really get into it that is, every time i coughed, i got scared, lol, then remembered, it was just a book. what non-fiction do u read? i usually read books to get away from MY life, and get into someone else's. i think the only non-fiction i've read was, "a child called 'it'", and the two following books that followed that one, by dave pelzer. other than that, i'm not into non-fiction, i've read a few chicken soup for the soul books, when i was in middle school, but i got into reading a lot, because of my home situation, and, since i didn't have many friends, and i couldn't go anywhere, and drinking and doing drugs wasn't an option, books was my sort of drug. to leave my life behind, and enter another world. if only for a few hours.

yes, someone told me what happens, lol. but i wanna see it for myself, since its never the same.

well, i wasn't really judging them by how attractive they were, it was just an opinion. i'd have felt better if the nurse wasn't wearing a tight little dress with open toe high heels, since, i go to the hospital a lot, and, they don't wear those things anymore, they wear loose fitting scrubs, with comfy shoes, since they have like 14 hour shifts or something, lol, the poor things.

i guess u have a life and i don't, LOL cuz i'm on the computer all the time, i'm a stay at home mom, so every time i have a chance, i'm on here, just to get away from the daily diapers, and gibberish talk, and the crying and the screaming. to have an adult conversation, with other than my myself, lol, is a nice thing.

I will try it out. Though if it is paced as painfully as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I will hate it, just going to warn you :P

Well there aren't any really set non-fiction books that I read. I just read any that I find interesting. Some subjects I find interesting:

- Baby Animals
- Astronomy
- Geology
- Medical stuff about medicine, Latin roots for all these terms, etc.
- How certain things are made
- History of the English language

Meh, that's what I can come up with off the top of my head. There are more than just those, though, of course :P

I hate it when people spoil the endings for movies. I'm sorry you know how it ends =(

I definitely don't have a life. I'm on the computer all the time, too, but lately I have just been getting caught up in some things.

Oh yeah...so what did you think of the actual movie 'Sublime'? Did you like it? Did you hate it? What are your thoughts on it?

i don't think its as painfully paced as harry potter, that book i think is a lot longer, lol.

ppl actually write books about baby animals? like what? how to take care of them or something? i usually watch that stuff on tv, like the history channel, or the discovery channel, national geographic, or animal planet.

i actually don't really remember what that person told me, i think he dies? the older brother, edward norton's character. i'm not sure, so maybe its not completely ruined for me since, i don't remember, lol.

so, what do u do? besides computer like me, lol.

i liked sublime, it left me with a lot of questions, and....how shall i put it....it left me thinking of all the things that were said....like, i was thinking about it earlier, when the little brother asks the older brother how do u know she's happy, and the older brother says, look in her eyes. and then the little one says, u can't tell from looking at her eyes, if she's happy, u can't look into her eyes and into her soul (something like that, lol). and then at the end, when he's comatose, or brain dead, or whatever the doctor said he was, he was suffering inside his head....but the wife looked into his eyes, and she "knew" he was happy, or something to that effect. and i was like....the little brother was right, u can't tell. and thats just one of the things that i thought about, daaays after watching it, lol. i do have a question, is the black nurse's name, is it supposed to be, derogatory? i've heard it somewhere before, but i just don't remember where!!!! mandingo, what does it mean?? maybe i should look it up on wikipedia, lol, which i most likely will do after i post this, lol. but yeah, i liked the movie, left me with an odd, sad feeling, i like movies that make that kind of impact on my emotions.

I love the Discovery Channel :)

Yeah, Edward Norton, the older brother, gets shot when he's buying some cigarettes. One of his former gang members shoots and kills him for being a traitor.

I use the computer, listen to lots of music, and watch lots of movies. I watch some television like Discovery Channel, some Animal Planet, and lots of Hannah Montana. In addition to this, I also watch a lot of television shows on DVD.

Sublime barely affected me at all. I had an odd feeling after viewing it, but it wasn't depressing or sad for me. Movies like Life Is Beautiful and Requiem for a Dream are usually the kinds of movies that stir my emotions to unbearable levels. The Mist also screwed with my head for a long long LONG time after watching it.

I don't know about the nurse.

Well Mono is nicknamed the "kissing disease", so everyone that doesn't know me is accusing me of kissing random girls, etc.. I can't tell you how frustrating that is to constantly be ridiculed via that joke :|

Let's see: I never share food utensils, water bottles, drinks.. I never share anything really. I'm quite obsessive-compulsive so I try to stay away from that kind of stuff... I got it back in 6th grade too, but I still don't know how I got it then, either.

Symptoms: Extreme fatigue, Upset stomach, Excessive itching, Dizziness, Migraines, ...and that about does it from what I know.

Junior high school is rather frustrating for me. I am not having much fun at all. It's just getting so difficult to keep up with everything, and the stress they put on you is so incredible. I don't like it at all.

I heard Senior year is much better, though, so I'm holding out for that.

lol wut. Illusions? What do you mean?

Thank you for the kind words again :P

I have MSN and Yahoo, but never use Yahoo. MSN is my primary chatting program, sans message boards of course :P

i knew it was nicknamed the kissing disease, but u don't sound like the kind of person who goes around kissing everyone, and it sounds to me like u're like my mom, a germaphobe, lol, and u sound like u actually do your homework!! where are u from! lol. i never did my homework, maybe thats why i had fun, LOL.

let me explain the illusions part, since u don't seem to me like u're one of those students. my high school, was kind of "ghetto", i'd say there were, 5 white ppl there, MAX, i look white myself, but i'm just saying. everyone else was either black, samoan, or chinese, filipino, or some other nationality that spoke a different language, lol. so, they think they're "gangsta" and what not, with their nasty fake gold teeth, and their rap music, (i'm more of a rock fan myself) and being "pimp". as IF, their mommies still buy their undies! for God sakes! they live AT HOME! how hard core can u be when u live with your parents? thats what i was talking about.

i don't have msn messenger, but i can download it right now if thats what it takes! i have to tell u, I'M REALLY BORED. none of my friends are online. they all have lives, LOL.

Lol, yeah... definitely not that kind of person.

Nope, I barely do my homework D:

Lol oh I see. Yeah I don't go around acting like I'm hot ****. I realize I'm still quite infantile in comparison to the rest of the world. I have a lot to learn... we always have a lot to learn in life, no matter how young nor old.

If you don't want MSN, you don't have to download it. I mean this is fine, too, you know? :P

...then again, immediate responses would be quite a luxury... I wouldn't mind that, lol.
