Who else hates Mughals

I really have a strong dislike of the Mughals.
It doesn't have anything to do with religion or culture,it is about the fact that they completely neglected eucation.
Akbar himself had no formal education. The only Mughal who I know paid some heed to education was Akbar's father,Hemayioun who actually died by falling from a library.
Sure the Mughals did make some strides in literature but science, mostly Chemistry ,was completely neglected.
Even literature was mostly restricted to poetry,I know of no famous novels from the Mughal era.
These people had access to gunpowder much earlier than Europe did,yet when the British came they found they found themselves outgunned.
Their knowledge of Physics was only proved by how much they knew about sound waves and mechanics which they used in their great engineering feats.
If they had a better education system, they could easily have had tanks(or at least machine guns) by the time the Europeans arrived.Just think how interesting that could have been.

They brought Mughlai cuisine. So its ok if they didn't do any of the stuff you mention above.

I despise the moguls. to me, they were worse than even the british and even more brutal. It's pity the british came in when they did. Maybe the sikhs and marathas could have pushed them back all the way to mecca if the brits had not have interfered.

Their architectural style is quite amazing.

reply

Hmm...worse than the brits? Elucidate please.

Mughals brought in landscaped gardens, concept of rainwater harvesting, differential taxes, regional administration, practical architecture, mughlai cuisine and stability for the concept of Hindustan as a nation, which was a mere bunch of kingdoms then.

sagheero, Mughals might have bought some good things but there is no doubt that they wreaked havoc on Hindus. Apart from Akbar, none of the Mughal kings was tolerating. It all reached heights in Auranggzeb's time when cows were butchered in front of priests, temples were demolished and mosques were raised in place of them and those who opposed were killed. It was massacre for Hindus and that itself became the reason of demise of Mughal empire when south India became grave of Aurangzeb and Mughal army.
And what new taxes you are talking about? Zaziya? The pilgrim tax? I have utmost respect for Akbar, for he was truly one of the best emporer India ever had, maybe in the league of Asoka and Chandragupta Maurya. But all other mughal emperors, especially Aurangzeb, were butchers and the hate is justified.

Oh and the concept of Bharat as a nation was always there. Maurya and Gupta empires were bigger than present India and had India as one nation. Common traditions had bonded whole India. This is written in Vishnu Puran-

Uttaram yat somudrasya, himadreshchaiva dakshinam.
Varsham tad bharatam nama, bharati yatra santatih.

Which means- The country that lies north of ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called Bharata; there dwell the decedents of Bharata.

Which clearly means that India was always considered one single entity, below the Himalayas and laying from Sindhu river in the West to Burma in the east.

Historically speaking the Mughals have the dubious distinction of squandering between 1/3 and 1/2 of the GNP of Old India --- just second to the pharaohs in extravagance! They inherited the Great Trunk Road from the Buddhists they exterminated while burning up all of the famous Buddhist libraries and universities like Nalanda. They built only forts, palaces, and mosques by looting previous Hindu masterpieces or preexisting temples and recycling them. Most mosques brazenly show hindu stones recycled to show the victory of Islam over the Hindus. They did not build schools or hospitals for the Hindus. They did not save Hindus from famine. They introduced the Mughal 50% land tax along with jizya taxes. The Hindu Kush Mountain Pass means Hindu slaughter ie the death of millions of Hindu slaves being forced marched into Islamic slave markets. Historic estimates say the Muslims killed or enslaved between 50 and 100 million Hindu, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jain and Christians in India. So I found the movie ironic despite it's romance because it negates history and glorifies Mughals who by and large slaughtered and enslaved the Hindus. Why glorify your ex-masters? Why glorify ex-conquerors?

Firstly, there is absolutely no evidence at all to support the myth about 50-100 million Hindus being killed by Muslims. You'd have to abandon logic and common sense to believe this nonsense, since the entire Indian population in the year 1000 was only 75 million. If the Muslims killed that many Hindus, then there wouldn't be any Hindus left in India. But instead, India's population increased by 50% to 110 million in 1500, according to British economic historian Angus Maddison. In comparison, India's population hardly increased at all from 1 to 1000 (remaining steady at 75 million), demonstrating that India's population growth actually improved significantly around 1000-1500, and accelerated during the Mughal era, increasing by 50% to 165 million by 1700.

Secondly, there were indeed a handful of Turkic massacres during that 1000-1500 period. But there's no need to distort history and over-exaggerate the numbers for politically motivated point-scoring purposes. The death tolls of these massacres usually numbered in the thousands, not the millions, with the possible exception of Timur, the most ruthless Turkic conquerer of them all. However, Timur killed far more Muslims than he did Hindus... kind of like his Mongol ancestors.

Thirdly, everything you've said has nothing to do with the Mughal Empire. You're conflating two completely different time periods of history, and two very different cultures, together as if they were one and the same. Like Hritik/Akbar said in the movie, the Mughals were not Turks, Afghans, or Persians. The Mughals undid the injustices of previous Turkic rulers (who they fought and defeated). From Akbar to Shah Jahan, the Mughals were known for being tolerant, up until Aurangzeb ended it with his intolerance (paving the way for the British). Also, let's not forget that Mughal India had the largest economy in the world, at its height.

And finally, the Mughals were a complete far cry from the British, who looted much of India's wealth and resources, destroyed India's local economy, established a racial hierarchy, caused numerous famines (which killed more people than all the famines in the previous thousand years combined), and turned it into a third-world nation. The Mughals were one of the thousand ethnic groups who embraced and assimilated into India's diverse multi-ethnic society. The same cannot be said for the British.
