'GHAJINI' is 'MEMENTO'

Recently I saw a movie called memento. It was a Christopher Nolan's film and it was damn good(22nd rank in IMDB TOP 250). Then after some sometimes I saw the stills of ghajini and for me it look as the as MEMENTO. For example in surya's body there was a lot of tatoos regarding his girlfriends death. This story line is the same as "MEMENTO". But I hope Mr AR Murugadass will give a different tretment for this film.Whoever interested to know about ghajini watch memento first.

reply

Yeh, it looks a lot like Memento and the trailer also talks about the 15 mins memory thing but I dunno if the story will be exactly the same...Whatever it is, it looks very good and Surya and Asin are my two fav actor actress in tamil films right now...SO whatever happens, this will be a good movie :D

reply

Yes it is deeply inspired from Memento... But its not an exact replica of the same but weaven through a different storyline. What I want to know is whether this is told in reverse order like in Memento. Will have to see how many understands the movie in layman's view.

reply

Yes, the trailer is looking like Memento only. I had seen this movie very long time back. But, that kind movie take in Tamil is too difficult. Wait and see.

reply

this is not exact same... it is a more masala movie. but it is not as good or sylish as the original....

reply

I saw the movie last week and it borrows VERY heavily from Memento (the polaroids, the short term memory loss, the tattoos, the girlfriend who was murdered etc. etc.). As mentioned above there are some essential differences - Ghajini uses flashbacks but not the reverse mode of telling, and the 'whodunnit' part is totally, totally different. Plus of course much more is added with a romance and a medical student who investigates the case.

There were also some direct copies of scenes from Amelie (where the heroine helps a blind man cross the street) and The Matrix (the fighting scene in suspended air) in the movie.

Memento was much more subtle and 'clever', but Ghajini was still pretty enjoyable and I'm glad it wasn't an exact remake!

YA AND RINGU IS JUST A CHEAP RIP OFF OF THE RING

god can;t other countries make remakes jeez

reply

Not to say that they can't do remakes BUT if they claim that its an orginal movie or concept then it's just a plain rip-off.

reply

RING copied RINGU ...... get it right

reply

yes. jax is right. ring is a copy of ringu. ring 2 has been directed by the one who directed ringu.

and ghajini is a poor copy of memento. poor tamil viewers (us). we have very few directors who can make a proper remake of a good movie. well... what else to say. the director seems an illiterate who couldn't understand a bit of memento. his ignorance shows in ghajini. he is good only in making romantic scenes, which i shud say are worth-watching. nothing else is.

All I see here is some arrogant *beep* trying to show off their understanding of movies and failing miserably, if you just don't like Ghajini, fair enough but if you don't like it because its not as complicated/stylish as Memento your an idiot. The movie was made for South India/Tamil Nadu, not for tamils who grew up in Europian countries; for that purpose and in comparison to other tamil films, this is brilliant.

reply

Its stupid, south indians can rent this movie with tamil subtitles or can get a dubbed tamil version. Why should all the credit for Christopher Nolan's movie go for some 3rd rate copying freak..the ppl involved in Gajini are thiefs more or less..maybe if they send 50% of their profit to memento crew, its worth it. Ass wipes...thats all the whole indian film industry is about... not one creative original flick..everything is borrowed effort. Dogs, just interested in money thats all.

reply

shut up you s*n of a b*tch south Indians are creative .......may be ghajini was copied but if you want real deal try seeing ramana, veyil, mozhi, pathinaru vayathinilae, paruthi veeran etc.......

reply

I agree with you that Ghajini is better than other Tamil films, but to call someone an idiot (using bad grammar) for comparing it to the film it ripped off, is childish on your part. The fact it was made for a certain audience doesn't detract from the fact when compared, it is like a crap stain. All the intelligent bits of the story are taken away and it is simplified to one word - revenge. The creative story telling methods are replaced with a boring linear plot with gaping holes in it. There are many years left for the majority of South Asian fans to become educated enough to enjoy a deep story instead of popcorn flicks.

Most of our Bollywood, Kollywood and Tollywood movies are remade from Hollywood titles. Similarly, the music numbers they have in the movies are also copied from English Tracks. Top copy cats in tamil industry are
1. Deva(Music)
2. Harris Jeyaraj (Music)
3. Gautham Menon (Movie)
In that, Harris and Gautham always pair up so its easy for them to copy. But they act as if they are making a Titanic remake. :P
