Is KST's French accent authentic-sounding or is she supposed to be an anglophone married to a Frenchman in the film? I can recognize a really bad accent but can't tell when it's subtle. I know she's been living in France since she was 20 or so and am wondering if she is able to play French characters.

Hy Heybartender! I just watched this film for a second time. Really funny film, and even not the best of Francis Veber. But I love his art of leading dialogues. No pause, no overplaying, very concentrated, sometimes even too concentrated and sterile.
Ok, I am not native (French) speaker, but I have a quite good ear, what concerns foreign accents. Yes, her accent is really perfect. Not the slightest English accent, speaking French. And I have the impression - I just watched once again one scene, to answer your question: "ça fait un certain temps, que je me suis promenée ici! ... J'ai fais le tour du propriétaire quoi!" Listening attentively I hear one little accent in "perdre" the first "r" may be English, and in "pauvre type" the diphthong "au" seems to be slightly English???
I paid attention on her mouth, and it seems to me not dubbed. It is just too perfect.
KST is apparently really talented in languages. Unbelievable!

Her French is perfect. She's starred in several French films. See her in "I've Loved You So Long."
shareYou are really right Marek (i just love your name!!). She speak perfectly french and in some words with ''R'' you can hear a little british accent. But to me it's just make me love to listen her speak french. But this aside, you think that shes a french woman.
shareAs I recall, KST first came to France from England to work as an 'au pair' when she was in her teens. Remaining and further educated in Paris, she married a gynecologist at age 24, with whom she had and raised three children, bilingually I would assume.
I do not have the ear of janney_ms, above, but I have noticed that KST's french accent can change with her role, most noticeably in "Il y a longtemps que je t'aime", (I've loved you so long).
I watched this movie again years after first seeing it. It is very amusing and I have never seen KST look better.
It is pretty darn close to perfect! I could hear a slight accent near the beginning of the film when she was talking to her private detective via cell phone from her car. Really slight. And even so, a French person may not recognize that as being a result of her being Anglophone, but perhaps just that she is from a different part of France. I live in the U.S., but my parents are French and French was my first language. Whenever I visit, it usually takes a few days of immersion for it all to come back, and if people don't believe I'm a native Parisian, they simply assume that I'm from the southern part of France with my accent, rather than just being an American!

Her French is on the spot, but you can tell she's a foreigner.
It's nothing heavy, but the accent is not 100% genuine French.
