What city does George live in?

In the movie, I think it was supposed to be New York. The city in the TV show doesn't look much like New York to me, but does anyone know? It seems to me that the city itself is an important character in the show.

I've always ASSumed that it was New York City. I don't know of other cities that still have doormen - and the zoo/park looks an awful like Central Park. Plus didnt the books take place in NYC?

It is NYC.

I think it is too, but I'm just assuming. There's also D.C. too.

Yes, that's highly possible that it would have to be somewhere between Boston and Washington, D.C. because the cross-country adventures take CG and MYH westwardly, a good railroad day from Saint Louis.

The distance between the City and the Country neighborhood would bridge a relatively close proximity because City residents often drop by the Country residence, and often MYH takes CG back and forth without much effort.

The Country neighborhood also lies in proximity to a beach, where Bill pops up on his bicycle when MYH takes CG there.

Therefore, if the City is set in, say, NYC, then the Country would lie on Long Island or, perhaps, Connecticut, but it would be a growing area with plenty of new neighbors popping up, and certainly not the quiet little getaway after a while, which it serves as during its first three seasons.

And if the City were set in D.C., then the Country would take for its setting Maryland or Virginia, both of which have coastlines father away than their proximity to the City. It wouldn't be Philadelphia because of no coastline access unless the Country neighborhood were set across New Jersey.

We do know that the City isn't set in Ohio because of the Doorman's announcement that ants have gnawed into the electric company's cables out in Ohio, causing the blackout in the City.

I was under the impression the country house was near a lake/freshwater beach (Wanasink Lake, in the series). Ironically, there's a Wanaksink Lake in Upstate NY. Coincidence?

I think he lives in Chicago because when he was going to Hawaii in Curious George goes on a vacation, TMWYH tells George that there's a winter storm in Chicago so their plane is canceled. To me that explains the lake situation, but the ocean I'm not sure about.. This is just an assumption

I also thought it was NYC. And the country would be maybe upstate NY. (It's been a long time since I lived in CT, so I don't know the outlying suburbs anymore;)

I think it's NYC because of the lions at the library. There are lion statues at the entrance to the main library branch in NYC.

It's def. NYC. Ever listen to how the doorman and firepersons talk? It's not Chicago. The vacation episode mentioned ^^^ I gathered they meant their connecting flight was in Chicago. They made it sound like the storm was not in the city they were in at the time.
