Jacob Ladder's rip off
Too obvious.
shareNot really. It was more of a ripoff of The Others and The Sixth Sense. The sub-plot in all three movies are identical, whereas it is much different in Jacob's Ladder. To go into further detail would require spoilers - so just agree, or disagree.
shareI was prepared to write the exact same things as you majorwest!
Open the door for Mr. Muckle!!
Actually, it's a rip off of "Campfire Tales" :P
[My heart stops when you look at me].
I think "The Others" and "The Sixth Sense" are better examples, but I could see some "Jacob's Ladder" at work here. I don't mind the similarities in theme, but I think this story could have been told much better.
shareIt's not a rip off. The same type of theme is happening, but that is a classic theme in tales like these. They've even done it on the "Twilight Zone" and "Carnival of Souls".
It would be a rip-off if it were done in the same exact way and the filmmakers pretended that it were their own creation. That didn't happen.
"Jacob's Ladder", "The Others", and "The Sixth Sense" weren't about a female psychiatrist that continues to treat dead plane crash victims until they all realize that they all didn't make it.
But Jacob's Ladder"? Where were the demonic images? Where was the war theme? Lol
Very true. This is a theme that's been covered in various forms and in various films for years, to varying degrees of success. Really, I don't care which came first or which film this reminds me of as long as this film makes me care, which it did to a point.
Had the filmmaker focused more on the characters' introspection rather than trying to make this a romance or a mystery or a paranoid thriller, I would have liked it more. It was all over the map in terms of theme.
The normal fare for modern Hollyfood. Originality is an outdated concept.
