How long did it take you before gving up on this movie?

right after the sex part, then I started skipping scenes, trying to figure out what it's about and end the whole thing once and for all, since it's not worth my time

I did almost the same thing, I just talked through those parts. I watched the first scene and then I after that I just ingored it, and asked my mom what was going on and then caught a little of the middle with them painting his wall. After that sort of I sort of payed the movie attention. It was just boring and didn't make much sense.

reply

Well it sort of made sense in a way, but none that made it worth watching.

He is replacing grey with blue in this scene, it's not the kind of movie we see all the time, no way a masterpiece, but it does have it's moments.

I'm watching it right now, the scene in the airport, and I'm bored enough to be writing on IMDB. This movie just plodded along, and I'm disappointed that it's the "dead all along" storyline. It would have been infinitely better if an alien had been involved. I mean, you get a minor character from X-Files, what do you expect people to think? I want my dollar back for the rental.

reply

It would have been better if they never made this movie. Given that is made $292,437 in U.S. theaters before going to DVD, I assume the studio would agree. Just to be fair, they pawned it off on some foreign viewers for another $4 mil.

They thought this was going to theaters when they filmed it, but then the studio execs actually saw it and someone was yelling DAMAGE CONTROL.

reply

43 minutes into it...right before the "sex" scene. This movie is frustrating, get on with it already. I'm very disappointed.

reply

I almost gave up but thought since I paid for this move and the state of the economy and how foolish it was to throw money away, I stayed with it. Really, when I realized that it couldn't possibly be a thriller and I let that classification go and reclassified it as a drama--loved it then.

Yep - this movie was a loser. I lost 9o minutes thinking it might get interesting. All the money spent on making it could've fed poor children or something.

reply

I didn't give up on it. But I was familiar with the story so I knew what to expect from the get-go.

I didn't give up on it; why would I? I have something called an attention span. Not every movie needs to feature super heroes, vampires, aliens, CGI, or animated rabbits to be worthy of one's time. One quick glance at the Top Ten movies for any given week in 2010 tells me everything I need to know about the average movie goer's taste level.

I'm with you Nightflyre.

I kind of figured it out half way through, and I wouldn't have needed the explanations fed to me by Eric when they are at the harbour in that ending scene, but apart from that I thought it was pretty good.

reply

Why would a movie "feature super heroes, vampires, aliens, CGI, or animated rabbits" be necessarily a bad thing? Your comment comes off as very condescending and does not add much to the conversation.

This movie could have been good, but it was just lacking in something to pull you in and keep you there. I will say that the openning of the movie and the plane crash done towards the end of the movie were very well done. The look on Clea Duvall's face as she put the earbuds in when the plane was going down was very harrowing. I just wish the rest of the movie was as believable with characters' emotions. To me this came off as the Sixth Sense on a plane, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all if it was just done with a little more imagination.

If you were to take one look at the types of movies I regularly comment on, you would realize that I have nothing against movies with "super heroes, vampires, aliens, cgi" or anything else of the sort. I was raised on horror, fantasy, and sci-fi, most of my all-time favorites being low-budget 80's movies.

There was nothing condescending about my comments, just an acknowledgment that a movie can be deliberately slow and almost entirely character-driven and still be as exciting and engaging as the genres I alluded to. Sorry that you misinterpreted my point.

Made it through all the way; I was just staring at Anne Hathaway the entire time.

i thought this movie was really confusing. i really didn't care for it that much. i definitely would rate this below a 5.

reply

You just have to watch the film is all. Inception could be labeled as confusing, same with Lost. This, however is not, just pay attention to the little things. I thought this movie was great. It's a shame people rag on it but this film had great acting and a great story. I guess this film wasn't an action packed thrill to some people. Much like some people HATE Alien 3 which was a great underrated masterpiece but LOVED Aliens which was equally good with loads of action. I thought the acting in this film was terrific, it really surprises me all of the negative comments about it. Each actor gave an great performance IMHO.

Btw, I'm referring to the Assembly cut of Alien 3.

I was slow catching on.
The first half kept getting harder and harder to watch....
but the twist was good...
and pulled me over to actually liking the movie.
