Who hates Shannyn Sossamon?

I do! I do!

Yet another film where she plays a thoroughly loathsome character in a completely lackluster way.

It's difficult for me to watch a film where I can't sympathize with a single character, and that is exactly what happened to me with this movie.

From her whining to her complete inability to pronounce "Henri" as anything other than "Henry", she was appallingly annoying. At one point when she was repeatedly calling after "Henry", "Waah, waah, slow down, you're going too fast, I can't see anything," I actually said aloud, "Shut UP, bitch."

Ugh.

i am sure, even though i haven't met you, that you're a fascinating individual, leading a rich, artistically satisfying life and the work you do everyday represents you completely as a human being. hating on an actor for the roles they play is like getting pissed off at a character in a book. it makes you sound simple.

strange. ronin's comment contained neither a run-on sentence or an incomplete one. your comment, however, contains several errors in grammar. no need for a comma after 'run on' or after 'board'. what's your job, by the way? blog-checker?

Although I thoroughly loved Shannyn at the ending parts though – you know -- all that we see with the friends before the car at the end, all I’ve been thinking since I saw this thing is how Shannon does have more to her than what was called on here. As I said, I loved the ending overall, but the story itself could’ve soared way more than it was directed to. I, too, didn’t like the “Henry” part, thinking it was disrespectful he sat up and specifically TOLD her his name before she then went ahead and butchered it right in his face -- hehe. There was just potential there for this movie, I feel, to have been a hit (better than it was).

reply

Nope I think she is was awesome. Really reminds me of the hotties I like to hang out with. I would have loved to hang out with all those characters in real life. Paris - what a life. Although I agree her assuming that his name was pronounced Henry could only have happened if she saw his name written.

reply

i have to say shannyn really dosent have the best movies iv seen devour and one missed call which really shows me shes not striving for the right parts it could kill her carear although it already seems dead

reply

I actually fully agree with you on all these points this character was annoying and for this reason this movie was awful. In survival horror you are supposed to be able to root for the character being hunted. Not hoping beyond hope that she will soon be pegged off so that you can enjoy the rest of the movie experience. This has nothing to do with being simplistic. Where exactly does it say that if you do not like a character or how one is portrayed that you are stupid? There are a ton of actors that I can not stand to watch. They simply don't have the talent to be anything other than themselves. This character was weak, annoying and you are right she just wouldn't shut up! On top of everything she was completely self absorbed. So the one guy that is trying to help you out hurts himself and you leave? Then because you really are a stupid !@#$% you end up- well everyone here has seen it. God can I please have the hour and forty minutes of my life back now?

I found Jesus! He was behind the couch the whole time!

reply

God are you for real? You would kill for an ounce of her looks and talent. Get a life!

reply

I would kill to sleep with her. She is one of my favorite actresses, and in my opinion one of the hottest chics alive. I love her.

reply

You're totally right about the character beeing annoying as *beep*
I'm writing this while I still watch the movie, can't concentrate on it because it makes my brain hurt.

1.) SOOOO unbelievable acting
2.) Totally stupid crying and shouting as if that would do the trick
3.) in general not likable because of the behaviour

The actress has a sweet face but that doesn't save it for me there is just too much rolling eyes stuff in this one, basically nearly every scene after the party.

If you compare this to "The Descent" - which I like - & which is a similar kind of movie, you might notice the plain stupidness of "Catacombs".

omg 12 more minutes to go :/

€dit: liked the ending

reply

Mebbe it was written into the script for her to be annoying and self-absorbed. And wasn't there a rave parteh? Which means she could be under-the-influence-under-the-catacombs.

In which case she played the part really well then.

Fear does bring out the worst in people.

With regards to acting ability and how we (in most cases I'd say unknowingly) measure it:
There really are precious few actors/actresses who are able to really sort of "transform" into the character they are supposed to be playing. There aren't that many even among the most esteemed of thespians. This may be just one guy talking, but in my estimation, Robert De Niro (for example) essentially plays Robert De Niro - with slight variations added thereunto - in every movie he makes. Same goes for Al Pacino and more or less any other of the "Greats". Or it might be more accurate to say that almost each and every actor exudes a persona that they simply cannot free themselves from. Daniel Day-Lewis is always pompously glum, and Philip Seymour Hoffman couldn't play a tough guy to save his life (although one must give him credit for trying so hard in "Mission: Impossible III"). Edward Norton's attempt in "American History X" was better, but in no way, shape, form or fashion did I for a second think: "This guy would scare me if I met him in a dark alley." It would seem that every individual possesses a kind of baseline personality that can never be completely hidden away.

So my point, ponderously arrived at though it may be, is that very often when we say we admire or like an actor, what we're really saying is that we have chemistry with that person in a once-removed sort of way. Now, 'chemistry' is a pretty elusive concept, but there it is nonetheless: in the way a person speaks; how they move, the way they look; the way their nose crinkles prettily when they frown - whatever.

As for me, I happen to like Shannyn Sossamon, and nearly always thoroughly enjoy her acting. Whether or not that makes her an accomplished actress, I really couldn't presume to say.

I don't hate her, but most of her movies suck, and she often plays very annoying characters.

reply

Insightful and all very good points. With that in mind, I hate Pink, could she be more of a slutty, crude, bitch? Trash, on and off camera!

Pink has what I refer to as "white trash face." A terrible case of it, too!

I love her!!

She seems to evoke some quite strong feelings in you, therefore she must be doing a good job.
And you do realize that she plays a character, not herself so theres no reason to hate her. Is there?

reply

I love her, I didn´t like the movie though, and I´m not saying she is a great actress or anything, but seeing her was good enough for me! hahaha! She is so beautiful... ´nuff said

She kind of reminds me of my ex gilrfriend.

reply

i love her, i wish she had better taste in movie choices tho. for every hit she has like, 3 misses. ugg.

Shannyn Sossamon is possibly the worst actress of her generation. This film is appalling for any number of reasons, but having this vapid waif play the lead character must be the rotting cherry on the diseased cake.

For an hour and a half, she phones in another distracted, uninspired performance worthy only of a quasi-catatonic psychiatric patient in the mental hospital's interpretation of 'Hamlet'. Alicia Moore was a disappointment too, but she was trying her hardest, and, consequently, I cared more for her character.

Sossamon didn't ruin this film - it was beyond ruination before anybody even reached for a camera. But she achieved the seemingly impossible: she propelled an utterly worthless film into dizzying new depths of pointlessness and boredom.

I paid money to see this, and I wasted my time watching it. I will never receive either back, and so I will hold this against the film makers, and particularly the awful Shannyn Sossamon, for the rest of my natural life.

reply

I think its a bit harsh to say that she cant act, fair play this movie wasnt the best but to say that she is hopeless is a bit over the top.

I also have to agree with a few other posters that she is incredibly hot!

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

reply

I don't have a problem with her as a person, but I really hated her character. She was so stupid and annoying, I wanted to scream!

"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night!"

*beep* U ALL. THIS MOVIE WAS EXCELLENT SHANNYN ISNT ANNOYING AND IF U WANTED TO SAY THAT TO HER THAN U ARE A STUPID UNCARING MORON. I THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS GREAT IN THIS MOVIE. I think she's very pretty but almost always has very bad hair. And her acting is okay but she does play annoying characters. I think I'm 50/50 on liking her.
