Why was Davy Jones a squid face but not Will Turner?

After Will Turner becomes the captain of the flying dutchman, all of its seafood crew members turned into humanoid. Why was Davy Jones a squid face?

reply

Callisto's curse?

Or maybe it takes longer than 10 years to turn into a sea monster.

squad face

In the latest instalment of the series (Dead Men Tell No Tales) which ironically released a decade after this film, Will gets aquatically transformed in a different way until the end of that film when he is free from the Dutchman

My brother and dad saw the film, and my brother told me that Davy Jones became mutated the way he was because of the sea goddess's curse. See, he wasn't supposed to step on land for 10 years at a time, and at one point, broke the rules. He and his crew had to suffer the consequences, that included mutating into ocean-like monsters. Will honored the rules and kept to them, hence why he and the crew maintained their human appearances.

reply

Because he did not do his duty to ferry the dead to the underworld, Jones and his crew turned into monsters.

reply

I always figured that those transformations take time to manifest.

Wasnt davy jones dead at that point? hence will being captain?
