Why wouldn't Elizabeth stay with Will?

She didn't seem to mind life on sea, at least in smaller amounts. Does she really rather only see him once in 10 years than spend her life at sea with him? Compromise much

*Spoilers*

She couldn't go with him because she was a living and breathing soul. The Dutchman would go underwater, and Will and the rest of the crew would be able to breathe, but she wouldn't. Plus, it's part of the curse. Elizabeth has to wait on land for him. If she remains faithful, then he will be free of the curse and can step on land any time he pleases, but if she's not faithful, then he remains cursed, and becomes like Davy Jones with tentacles and only able to step on land once every ten years.

I think that's inaccurate. Davey Jones, and now Will Turner, is immortal as long as the heart is kept safe. The price for immortality, however, is that he can only come ashore once every 10 years. Their job is to ferry souls to the Locker. Davey Jones didn't do this, thus was cursed, along with his crew, to be transformed into fish people, for lack of a better term.

I just saw this movie again on Starz, but for the 1st time, stayed through the credits. And true to Disney form, there was a clip at the end. It showed Elizabeth and her 10 year old son, waiting by the shore for Will Turner. The son singing "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A pirate's life for me".

I forgot to add in my reply: My theory is that Will Turner trusted no one, except Elizabeth, to keep his heart safe. Thus, she had to remain alive. Anyone who had possession of the heart can control Will Turner, such was the case with Davey Jones. My guess, when she's dead, she'll pass it to her son. Then he to his offspring, and so on and so on.
