when Calypso goes giant

It makes no sense that the ropes grow with her. They're not of her, they're hindering her, would've made much more sense for her to just bust through them right away.

Yup, you're right.
But that's just ONE of the THOUSANDS nonsense things this movie was filled with.

Ok, PotC movies will never be realistic; I'm ok with that, and I have been more than ok with the first two movies.
But in this one, the nonsense got gigantic (bigger than Calypso), and my suspension of disbelief just couldn't cope with it.
It was full of "Oh, c'mon...!" moments, that spoiled my enjoyment.

Exactly, you can't watch Jack flying around ropes from ship to ship in the middle of a hurricane then complain about growing ropes. There were just too many ridiculous moments in this film to take seriously, I would have just preferred a legitimate battle at the end than what they gave us.

I mean, a marriage during the middle of the fight? And why did all the action and the storm suddenly die down when they needed to have conversations? Just too much.

and "kick ass" make much sense with little girl kick the ass of gangsters!! and the fifth element make much sense with skinny girl beating every one!! this is fantasia not history

reply

That's an argument of realism vs believability. I'm not arguing realism, obviously the majority of what happens in a PoTC isn't realistic and that was never my argument.

Kick Ass is believable because the girl is trained her entire life to be an assassin. In The Fifth Element, Leelo is literally one of the Supreme Beings of the Universe so yeah I think it makes sense if she can fight a little bit.

and jack sparrow came back from the dead with special powers, and calipso is godess who was turned human by magic and then turned back, and the black pearl came back from the under world with special powers to make people get married during battle and growing ropes, it's not just fantasy but also comedy so lighten up

reply

learn the meaning of the world "fantasy", asperger

Perhaps everything her skin touches also grows? Because if not then her mortal clothes would've torn off too.

reply

Interestingly, this issue pertains to The Hulk as well: why his pants always remain?
Whenever a movie protagonist grows bigger in size, there's still always some clothes covering his/her "naughty bits" ;-)

I think we could call this "The American moralistic conundrum" :-D

What I didn't understand is why they tried to restrain her in the first place.
