The effects were so horrible

I was looking forward to this version after being let down by the gorier version, but honestly this one was just as bad. The script was cheesier and the effects were so lame. Even the acting was more horrible then this version. I really can't even imagine why Schrader wanted this version released, it's embarassing if anything.

The story was much more mature and literate than the one in The Beginning.

Yes, the effects were absolutely terrible. Though as bastasch8647 said about the story being more mature, I agree there but I prefer The Beginning over this, it was a lot more darker and felt more like an Exorcist film. If Dominion was darker and had better effects and less continuity errors I'd probably like this one more. Also the Pazuzu statue should've been like it was in the original Exorcist not like it is here.

Luis: Patrick? Patrick, is that you?

Patrick: No, Luis, it's not me. You're mistaken.

About the Visual effects, they are still unfinished, this Movie did not get a standard post Production, and the Studio only spent a few bucks to put it on DVD, they didn't care about it being properly finished.

About the Pazuzu Statue, The logic behind it's appearance is supposed to be that it's in Africa not Iraq, different people built it, so it's a different interpretation of the same Demon, The one in Exorcist The Beginning looked too much like the original, But I admit I wish the one in Dominion looked a bit more recognizable, mainly the head, there is pre-production Art showing that at one point it was to look more like the original.

Those hyenas looked well stuffed, LOL

I think it was intentional to give it a feel that is closer to that of the original

As mentioned above, this is only really a rough cut that Schrader finished the best he could with money out of his own pocket - had they got behind this version originally and not made the Harlin one, the released film would have been rather different.

It should be judged for what it is.

I liked this film a lot, but I must agree the effects were terrible. They almost took away from the movie.
I thought the movie could have just has easily been eerie if they'd used real dogs/wolves! And just showed them for a couple of scenes.

Absolutely. The hyenas were very distracting. Had the decision been made to use real animals like all films before CGI used to do, it would have helped Schrader in the long run. There would have been no need for the CGI wolves later that he didn't have the money for.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

Paul Schrader was given $35,000 for ALL of the post production. That's everything, including sound, visual effects, everything. The fact that they could get anything remotely okay for that price is a miracle.
