Did this film make you cry?

I am a 25 year old male and I seem to cry at films like this. Where I would have to have a happy ending in it or I would be haunted for life?

What is wrong with me? Or are others the same?

I cry everytime I see Dwayne's breakdown. It BREAKS MY HEART.

reply

Same here. :"( It's so sad.

reply

I thought that the scene in the diner was the most touching.

I'm a 28 y.o. male who found this movie boring and annoying. All the men in the movie were like whiny babies. None of them were assertive or strong people. I didn't find myself empathizing or envying them. The little girl was cute, but not enough to make the whole movie enjoyable.

reply

25 yo male too and i can't watch this film without crying, gets embarrasing when i'm watching it with people.

reply

this is the only movie ever ive cried in. almost cried in edward scissorhands, definately cried in this because its so damn happy at the end. and ive seen tons and tons of movies

reply

yes, I balled like a baby throughout the whole movie. I loved it.

reply

Holy christ, I cried like six times when I watched this recently. It's an uplifting sort of crying though, if that makes any sense.

reply

Dwayne's outburst was very upsetting, and the end of the film is very emotional too,but in a happy way.

I always cry during the part where Olive goes to the hill to try to console Dwayne when he is freaking out, and all she has to do is hug him and he says "Okay." and goes back to the van. It's just the simplest form of love in a crazy world where every thing seems to be going down hill for the family.

I also get teary eyed when Olive is looking at herself in the full-size mirror in the middle of the pagaent, and she sucks her stomach in. As a girl, it just felt so sad... like she lost her innocence in some way and realized that as a woman, she will be judged hugely on her physical appearance, not her personality.

reply

Yeah, the head-on-the-shoulder-and-arm-
around-Dwaynne did it for me. It was such
an eloquent gesture, coming from a small
sister (I don't have any) for her brother.

(1) Are you OK ?
(2) I sympathize
(3) I empathize
(4) We will get through this --together
(5) Now, can you pull yourself together for me ?

And she said it, in a way, no words can.

Beautiful. Touching.

A little tear managed to escape these
hardened, cynical lids.

Yes it was amazingly done, but also beautifully shot. The direction is perfect in this scene.

The part where they are in the hospital waiting room after taking Grandpa there.

Dwayne writes Olive a note "hug Mom".

Just watched it for the first time and I cried a lot in it. It was the story of my family & friends. Very funny and yet very moving. Like a modern day Grapes of Wrath.

I am a 44y.o male, and when Olive began to dance, and then the family joined in, I laughed and cried. On my first viewing attempt, I gave up after about 20 mins because I hated the characters. On my second to tenth viewings, I grew to love them all!(PS. If you want to cry unashamably, watch Life as a House)

reply

I actually saw the movie, really liked it, but didn't cry. Then I had to read the script for a class, loved it, and cried. It's seriously an amazing movie.

reply

Yep....i did.
The scene where olive asks her grandpa if she's pretty.....
There are a few other bits that get me... but don't make me cry.

Honestly one of my favourite movies of all time.

So deep and so different.

The first time I watched it, I was choked up when Olive pushes away her chocolate ice cream, I just wanted to hug her and I totally think her grandpa and uncle and her brother had the right response...then when she asks her grandpa if he thinks she's pretty, his response had me sobbing into a beach towel (no joke)...now when I watch it, I cry in like 20-minute intervals, sometimes happy tears, sometimes sad tears
