Did this movie try too hard to be 'Remember the Titans'?

At the beginning that's what it felt like to me. Right on down to the inspiring music. It just seemed kind of tacky. In fact there was one part where the old coach was talking to Sean Astin about something and it felt like they were copying the mood right out of the scene of "Remember the Titans" where the black coach was talking to someone while they were sitting on the table (It was right before he looked outside to see his neighborhood cheering him on). That I think is where the cheese came from was because they tried too hard to make it "Remember the Titans" and it failed.

Another thing I didn't really like was the main kid who was a punky kid. He didn't really get me as a punky kid, like Idk what he could have done but he just didn't do it right for me. What did you guys think?

Actually, it was much more similar to "Hoosiers."

The punky kid (Mitch) was supposed to be obnoxious and unlikeable at the beginning. By hanging around all the friendly small-town folk he turned into a swell guy. (In real life things don't work this way, but what the heck -- it's a movie.)

To me it doesn't seem to me but to you it could, I just don't see how. The two head coaches that we see in the movie first Jim Van Scoyoc and Kent Stock don't seem to me as strict as Herman Boone. Both movies are two different stories, Remember the Titans has more black players in the movie, and there is no black players in this movie at all. If you remember the movie Remember the Titans well you should remember that in one scene a player complains about being tired and thirty and needing a water break, and Herman Boone yells at him and makes the whole team did up downs until that player is no longer tired and thirsty like how would that help? I don't remember inspiring music, and I watched it today but next time I will try to catch it. Remember the Titans had 2 groups f people black and whites and how they felt about each other this movie didn't. You do have to remember that these are 2 based on a true true about sports teams in different sports, and this movie takes place or most of it takes place 20 years after Remember the Titans did.
