I have been waiting for a movie similar to "The Beach" for years. I can't travel and see the world, but I can experience travel through films like these. This one looks awesome. I lived in Brazil for a while, which I understand is not like Machu Picchu, but I miss South America.
What other movies are like these? Any suggestions?
Has anyone else been to any amazing places in South America?

shareInto The Wild is also a great travel adventure movie. It is the same spirit but with the western United States (with a little Mexico and Canada for fun). Into The Wild is a much more doable trip for most Americans.
shareI thought I was the only person who enjoyed these type of travel movies. Of course the books as well. Into The Wild is also a great movie, and book. And of course that's what I want to do, just travel these places and have my own great adventure. But I just want to go everywhere.
shareI loved The Beach!! And now im soo going to see this one!! :) I saw this other movie not long ago called Turistas. Its like a horror movie, but it was still kinda interesting, b/c it was about Americans getting trapped in Brazil.
Is this on DVD?
PS theres a movie called "somewhere" by the same ppl who made this movie. I didnt see it but I saw parts of it...seem good. :)
There are 100s of travel movies around I'm sure. Off the top of my head, try The Motorcycle Diaries set in South America.

Don't forget all the Michael Palin travel documentaries. One of my absolute favorites is Himalaya. Sahara is also good. Around the world in 80 days. Pole to Pole. Full circle. Ewan McGreggor and Charlie Boorman's Long Way Round and Long Way Down.
I am also a huge fan of this very small genre of film. Going out and actually doing something like this yourself just makes you end up appreciating these types of films even more. There is nothing better than advenure travelling and while most of us can only do these types of trips once every year or two, having films like these to watch helps make that time in between trips a little less monotonous.
As for this film, I loved it. I actually went in not knowing anything about it. I didnt even know what genre of film it was in or who was in it. I literally knew nothing about it and that can be a very good thing with films especially if its a really good film. The more you know about a film before you see it the more expectations you will have for that film and expectations can, and usually do, negatively effect our viewing expereince. Going in without knowing anything is the best way to see films and I was lucky that was the case with this film. This was easily one of the most enjoyable films I have seen in quite some time. Great story & solid performances. I highly recommend this especially if your a fan of this genre of film.
As for comparing it to the beach, while they are both adventure travel films this is a far far better film.
