blake

what was the point of adding in characters and havin reformed pirate blake save the girl to just end up shot in the back unceremoniously--scene was weird and disjointed and "blaaaake!!!!--oh well he's dead"--and the best, most interesting and entertaining character was barely there. Is that in the book that way or some similar way?

I know what you mean! I kind of started watching the movie at the beginning and thought; 'ah, no. this looks really boring' and wandered off to watch Trainspotting instead. After that finished I came back and Blake was having his big 'fightbackagainstthebadpirateguy' part, and I started wishing that I had watched the whole movie because he seemed to be really, really cool. And then they go *kill* him! Jesus. I was hoping he would come back or something because- man- that death was so insignificant and he seemed like an important, interesting character. Idiots. +fistshake+

I figure the writers HAD to kill him off, because there was no way the relationship he was developing with the girl could work. He was a pirate dude, she was a wholesome lass. So they had to kill him off before they left the island, otherwise the girl would be dishonoured or something. Well **spoilers** as if they didn't all get eaten by the giant octopus in the end anyway.

I must admit that I found the movie a little bit boring until "Blake" entered the screen. Such a shame he had to die in the end.

Where else can we see "Blake"? His face looks really familiar...

His name is...Tom Mison.

Tom's a friend of mine and has a large head. He's also a ponce. FACT

Stop being mean Kev.

I was infuriated. I watched it a month ago, and it said it was two parts, so I thought I missed the second part. I was all yay...Blake is so coming back! Then I watch it tonight and find out I saw the whole thing. Blake is so not supposed to die. He's supposed to marry Helen!

I havn't seen The Mysterious Island, but I do know Tomus. He is my pal. We are going to the fireworks tonight.

Just wanted to say that I just watched the movie, and while most of it was a rather cheesy interpretation of the book, 'Blake' made the whole thing for me. I'd love to know more about him and where I may be able to see him in the future. Please tell Tom that he's got an admirer in Oregon who would be most excited to hear from him:) Much love!

Love interest.

Cyrus gets the Mom and there's no one to pair her daughter with. So they had to introduce a handsome age appropriate love interest.

Plus adding a few more fleshes out the story nicely.

And no, NONE of that was in the book.

No one has done a Jules Verne book adaption that was close to the version in the book.

Personally, I'd like them to try Michael Strogoff. Always liked that but it's never been adapted to the screen for U.S. audiences. 1975 was the most recent and that was a Hungarian production.

There are a few other Verne books that haven't been done.
