So I just watched the 1961 movie...

And I'm gonna be honest I don't understand why it's considered so much superior to this version. I enjoyed both movies personally. But the 2005 one had more action, better characters, better acting and more story to it. The only thing 1961 had was more fitting music and a sexy goatskin panties. But that's certainly not enough to make it stand out as "the better movie".

This movie has cheesy special effects yeah and is more humorous/silly. But that's part of its charm lol.

Have you ever read the book? This movie destroys the original plot so badly, I've never seen another movie that so completely *beep* upon the original premise. I mean, you can make some Z-category action horror for all I care, but don't name it after a Verne novel about five escaped POWs who survive thanks to their ingenuity in an environment where there are certainly no women, no giant insects and none of the other stupid changes they implemented. Why name this "Mysterious Island", seriously? It has as much to do with the novel as it does with Harry Potter.

Verne's book is one of the pillars of science fiction. I don't mind if some one wants to make a lousy movie and set it in Verne's time, but the absolute pillaging of the book by this film is unforgivable. Make all the crummy movies you want, but don't attach Verne's name to them if you don't follow his story or sense of wonder.

Ever seen First Knight? No resemblance to Arthurian legend other than the name.

How about the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes? My stomach turns just thinking about it.

There are plenty of examples were only the title and perhaps the characters resemble the source material. The James Bond movies are notorious for this.

OP is a total moron.

the 1961 version has Ray Harryhausen for his special effects.

Never heard of him?

Love the original - great effects and characters - but this one not so much ... Too bad too. I like Kyle M.
