a better ending (spoilers)

Maybe I'm a pollyanna who wants to have everything work out okay in the end, but I think the movie should have ended with Susan Sarandon's line "I'm her mother." I think throwing the bit at the end where we find out Blunt is not her daughter but a friend at the orphanage is just a twist too far. Or if they wanted to do that, they could have had that plot development take place earlier in the movie so there could have been some sort of final confrontation between Sarandon and Blunt.

But personally, I think ending it with Blunt and Sarandon just embracing would have been...nice.

I couldn't agree more.

I have to agree with the OP. I hated the last little twist.

concur with the negative vote here. As a twist, it was completely pointless.

The twist was an interesting turn, and I was rolling my eyes with the "I'm her mother" bit but it should have ended there. The twist was just too much what with introducing that Sarandon wasn't crazy and the nutter was her long lost child she gave up for adoption. It was almost soap opera-ish with the final twist.

It's open for a sequel this way. Haha!

There were two fast twists at the end, one about Sarandon being her mother and the other being that Kate wasn't Kate at all, but got rid of the original daughter and took over her identity. I didn't find the film particularly well done.

reply

Definitely. The second twist was totally unnecessary.
