keri russell's character ruined the movie

What the hell was the point of this annoying, worthless character? All she did was fill the movie with dimwitted, flimsy, uninteresting, go-nowhere philosophical ponderings. She talked soooooo much without ever actually saying ANYTHING. Terrible character, HORRENDOUS choice to put her in the movie. It's not like she even drove the story forward, if anything she dragged and bogged it down, needlessly interrupting the creepy and interesting scenes involving the actual creeps who make up the plot of the movie. I can't even begin to understand why the writer/director chose to tell the story in such a bizarre and senseless manner, why include this character?

Also, unrelated but still bothersome, flashback scenes being filmed as if they were filmed on some older, super 8 or home camera = IDIOTIC. Had the same problem with American History X filming flashbacks in black and white. Do these directors think viewers will be unable to tell it's a flashback if it's not filmed to look older or at least completely different then the rest of the film? Pretty insulting.

Ok,first of all,i agree completely with you about russell's inclusion in the film..waste of bloody time if you ask me..i kept wondering why on earth she's so interested in this case at all..i mean yeah,it's unique and everything and of course it'll attract attention but she's like morbidly obsessed with it..like it turns her on or something whacked like that..
With american history x however, there is a lot of symbolism in the imagery of the movie. the fact that it was shot in black and white was very important in conveying the message of the story and derek's character.look at it this way:the black and white scenes was when derek had a monochrome mentality..he believed in segregation of black and white..he didn't believe in integration..then when they shot in present day, after he changed his thinking, they shot it in colour..do you understand?
Also, look closely at the scenes after derek is released:he only ever wears both black and white..an integration symbolising his change in belief. He doesn't believe in white superiority any more.it's subtle but we were taught to look at this kind of stuff when analysing films for our psychology project. i had to analyse fight club but i wanted to watch other films with edward norton to flesh out his diversity in acting to truly understand the narrator in fight club..so i watched a lot of his films:painted veil, red dragon, death to smoochy, the illusionist etc..

This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.
