Movie banned in Germany

It was just on the radio. The court in Kassel ruled that the movie infringes Meiwes personal rights and that it won't open in Germany next week. Looks like it will never see the light of day over here.
What the hell is wrong with German courts nowadays?!?!

~ closed minds should come with closed mouths ~

Judging from the reviews this film is pretty bad anyway. Why did they have to make it in the first place? Who would want so see this apart from some sick minds?

Anyways, the producers had to reckon with this ban to come. The case of Meiwes still isn't closed, so the court was probably right with it's decision.

reply

they claimed that the movie had too many correspondances with the real life of meiwes (88 in detail), and that it would hurt his personal rights. they also said that in this case the personal rights overrule the rights of freedom of arts and moviemaking, and that's it!

reply

for the time being at least

i reckon they will sooner or later appeal the decision and the film will make a lot of money at the box office - thanks to all the free media attention

reply

Yeah, and in the meantime, everybody who wants to see it can probably download it soon from some illegal websites. That's what always happens with banned movies, right?

reply

in other countries..is possible the release in 9 march?

"What the hell is wrong with German courts nowadays?!?! "

pardon???
well we´re not living in the united states or elswhere. whatever he had done he has still his rights and i'm proud to live in a country where the courts are still making right decisions (even if you don´t like them).
the filmmakers did not ask him for his permission - as the court said the filmmakers did show a lot of his life 1:1 and that´s not allowed. they didn´t had the permission, that´s it - definately right decision!

I absolutely see your point marcinek-1, but in this case, I think it was a "wrong" decision, but out of very legitime reasons. This insane person wanted to sell his story and the rights anyways and make a lot of money with it himself...I´m glad he didn´t get one single cent! He´s not feeling guilty or wrong about what he did.He thinks he should get acknowledgement for killing a person. He didn´t care for the victim´s right to live and therefore it´s very hard for me to accept this hypocrite conclusion. But the main problem is that banning only makes it interesting for little internet-weirdos and that bastard may get some strange kind of a cult-status. That´ll really only make it interesting for younger people to watch this film. And no matter how crappy the film is or not, there will surely be a lot of publicity about it(actually he´s already been on every news show I saw today) and I think it will be handled alongside some leached porno DVD-rips and "happy slapping"-Videos among many young people here in germany. I think this guy should have been banned from publicity,he doesn´t deserve any mentioning in the media, and much worse, as in this case, a whole movie about this sick person´s life.I think as long as he´s alive, there shouldn´t be a film about him, cause he´ll surely perceive it as some kind of "fame".

reply

He doesn´t want to make money with it.
The production company offerd him money, but he refused to take it.
He just doesn´t want his person to be shown in which the movie does. Whatever that means...

reply

He doesn´t even know the film,so how shall he know in which way the movie portrays him? About a year ago, there were newspaper articles, that he wanted to sell his book rights and his story to "Hollywood".There had been a discussion in the medias in Germany,if he should be allowed to make money with it...
Anyways,I don´t think an insane person(And that´s what he obviously is!) is able to judge, whether a movie which portrays him is realistic or not.He thinks he´s sane and all the others insane. He wouldn´t believe he´s insane,if the psychiatrists tell him so. How could such a person be self-critical or true about his life?
I suppose he wants to have a more "glorifying" movie, which shows him as what he sees himself(someone whose superior to the others, and not as a psychopathic killer).

reply

ok guys, im austrian, but i saw it on german tv as well, alongside w/ the trailer or parts of the movie. anyway, what i wanted to say is, actually, if this person WANTED his death and meiwes eating his genitals and everything (a hooker who had contact w/ the 'victim' said that he asked for it over and over again) why shouldnt he be allowed to have meiwes doing it to him? one part is the sado and the other the maso, so in my eyes, everything is ok w/ that. and i would want to see the movie, maybe im a sick psychopath, but i also enjoyed SAW I and II and 8mm and everything, and dont tell me they are not sick or pure imagination. i think everyone should have the right to do and watch what s/he pleases, and if id like to be eaten, someone else should have the right to fulfil me that wish, just as if i want to die i should have the right to end my life. i am not proud to life in a country where some politician, police officer or doctor tells me to get on w/ my life even if i want to end it. you get my point?
and, as has already been said, he DOES want to make money out of his story, because he wants to be portrayed in a movie he is 'directing', although he knows the movie only from the script.

reply

the movie isn't banne in germany. the thought about it and tried to sue the director/label. but they didn't win. the movie will be shown in germany.

reply

Last thing I heard, it won't. Could you please state the source of this info?

Actually I even read a statement from the German distributor Senator saying that the case was won by Meiwes and that is also the current state of affairs according to their website:

They did win,and the court banned it,but the production company lodged an appeal. It will go to the BVG, which is the highest legislative court in germany.

And Skjoldsmoey, I think you cannot compare it to euthanasia. I won´t denie that they are suffering heavy psychic pains, but I wouldn´t compare their situation to people that suffer from an irremediable, physical disease. I think a person, that wants to be eaten by another person is as sick as a person that wants to eat another. They both need help, and we can give´em that help nowadays. What if your brother or another close relative you love would tell you that his greatest wish, would be to be eaten by someone. Would you say:"Ok,if that´s what you wanna do,then do it!" or would you think he needs help and try everything to give him that help? I think every sane person would try the latter one.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."(The Dude)

If a person wants to die, he has every right to do so, IMO. They best way to reach that aim is to commit suicide. Meiwes knew that it's legally forbidden to kill someone, even if it is the victim's wish. Now, he has to face the consequences for his deed; he did kill someone after all. And, unfortunately that man still has rights. Don't get me wrong, it was a good decision the court made, but I heard that Meiwes already sold his story to a documentary. That's what's bothering me. Personally, I don't buy it that he feels hurt in his human rights.

First of all, this man is very sick; it's not the same thing as being a "bastard." He wasn't a serial killer, hunting hapless victims and taking their lives. The man he killed searched him out on the internet; he wanted to be "eaten," as much as his killer wanted to eat/kill someone. As sick as it is, this was a mutual agreement between two disturbed people. The first man who answered this guy's ad, changed his mind at the last minute. Even though he was strapped to the table, he was released as soon as he asked to be. As far as this film ending up as a cheap-thrill flick among teens; believe me, it will not be. There is almost no entertainment value here; the only feeling that anyone will get is one of depression, and maybe a feeling of guilt for having watched it. This is nothing like a cheap thrill splatter film. and it stays remarkably true to fact, which is why it is banned in Germany. I can't imagine anyone liking the film, but it is undeniably well-made.

I'm sorry to say but I don't care what rights a man who ate the penis of another and left him to bleed to death has. He lost all those rights when he committed murder.

reply

What's wrong with Germany ??? Well the same thing as what's going on in Belgium I guess. Only murderers, Criminals & trouble makers got any rights, the rest of the population is banned of all rights except one : Pay your taxes & feed those who are to lazy to work....socialism is ruling once more our countries.
