Apples with salt?

There's a scene where you see Zozo eating apples with his grandfather. The interesting thing is that they sprinkled salt on them. Is that a traditional way to eat apples in lebanon?

Maybe the salt is supposed to diminish the sourness of young apples. I don't know, but it seemed kinda odd to me.

It's very yummy. Cooked green apples work great with chicken and feta cheese. Or with cabbage and a bit of vinegar. So many dishes you can do with it! Nom nom nom.
