What is this film about?I found this in a search for British actress
Jane Asher--she has red hair, is about 60. What is her character in
this film? How many scenes does she have, or how many minutes of screen
time, approximately? I have never heard of it, nor the book. I don't read/speak
Spanish.
Jane Ahser plays the Empress of Mikael Comnenus. At the beginning of the film she is still locked away, veiled in a dark room for an enforced period of conventional mourning for the death of her son in battle against the invading Turks. She's a major role in the film. Her mourning seems a bit insincere. At the end, we see her rather as a "cougar", taking a lover young enough to be her grandson to her bed, then raising him to the purple as King consort after her husband dies. When Tirant sees them watching from the battlements as he sails from the harbor, it's pretty obvious that Byzantium will soon be overrun by the Turks.
