Spoilers for a decade+ old movie...
I felt this could have been halfway solid if they didn't put an Alien-type subplot in there. I mean, just have some malfunctions go on and how the crew deals with it, a true triumph of the will and sacrifice story. Instead, we get some BS about how one of the members goes rogue and has the ability to go around killing everyone.
Also, all his scenes where edited to be blurry, distorted or overexposed which was annoying as hell. The last 20 minutes were barely watchable.

Yes, I thought it was a cheap and easy way of writing the rest of the movie. A number of interesting sci-fi movies setup everything with great concepts and then it just gets silly.
That blurry / flashing effect he had was just frustrating and made it tiring to finish the film. There were a number of scenes where it was happening and he wasn't even on screen and it was someone else. Plus sometimes there was subliminal frames of someone's face or silhouette which weren't necessary.
You’re all wrong. Sunshine is a deeply spiritual film - the sun being humankind’s earliest ‘god’ - and Pinbacker represents the dark side of religion, he’s a fanatic, willing to kill to bring himself closer to his god.
The distortion effects are there for a reason - he has been so warped by the sun that normal people struggle to look at him, similar to how you can’t look into the sun without discomfort and damage to your eyes.
Pinbacker is essential to the deeper meaning of the film.
