It all got a bit silly at the end. The crazy guy picked up the physicist with one hand and held him in the air. That's not just a feat of strength, that's nigh on impossible! Your shoulder muscles are a very small group, and even the world's strongest men wouldn't be able to hold you with one arm stretched out straight like that!

There was no explanation for his super power, nor for his apparent obliviousness to extreme pain. It all got a bit weird for me.

You think that's air you're breathing now?

In normal gravity? Yeah.
But they were falling down a star, with the gravity going crazy due to the payload spinning around.
And he's not exactly oblivious to pain - both times he got hurt - Pinbacker screamed like a *beep*

If you listen to Brian Cox's commentary track, the original idea was for a Moon sized bomb so it would have one-sixth gravity. The idea changed but that bit stayed. Easy enough then for him to be picked up like that.
