How Did Pinacker Survive?

I've never been able to figure out how Pinacker survive for seven years? And when the Icarus II crew members see the Icarus I in front of viewing, do anyone wonder if that crew was killed by Pinacker and then put in front of the screen?

I think I remember that the ship had enough food for 8 people for like 2 years.
Reduce the crew-count to one and do the math.

Okay, I can understand that part, but I would have thought that his ship was so close to Mercury that it would have burnt up.

Well the Icarus 1 greenhouse was in overdrive and (as we saw onboard the Icarus 2), there were vegetable plants like carrots. You also should consider that after Pinbacker killed the rest of the original crew, he would have had food stocks still available for 8 people on a multiple-years mission. So in answer to your question, YES it's entirely plausible that he could have survived 7 years. He wouldn't have gone insane because he clearly had already arrived at that juncture.

No suspicion at all? Knowing how many members were aboard Icarus I, was this the math that threw everything off? 

We've met before, haven't we?
