I loved this movie.....But highfunctioning?..Plz

I really loved this Movie....But the character of Linda, is supposed to be high functioning?(i dont buy that).....I am highfunctioning aspherger myself, and knows many who are, and they and i are nothing...(far from) like this....But i loved the Movie and thought Sigourney gave a touching and great performance as someone with Low functioning autism

It's like they thought she qualified as 'high functioning' just because she was very verbal. But in the same sentence they say she can't tie her shoes. Yeah, real high functioning.

Firstly if you are an Apsie then you would know that autism is a spectrum with asperger's right the top of said spectrum. In fact some experts claim it should not be regarded as a form of autism (I feel it should)

Autism is signified by a combination of trouble with social interaction, communication difficulties, stereotyped/repetitive behavior and interests and in some cases cognitive delays. Linda obviously has all these symptoms to varying degrees.

However as she is able to live indepenently and is quite proficient at verbal communication she is obviously by default at the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum, and as such she can be classified as high functioning.

As an Aspie, you should know that functioning labels are *beep* Autistic people can be very "high" in some areas and very "low" in others. I'm sure they've deemed her "high functioning" because she has the ability to live semi-independently. You should also know that not all autistic people are the same. There's a famous saying that perfectly sums up autism: "If you've met one autistic person, you've met one autistic person."
