OK, I was curious so I just watched that scene again. Maggie did not get off the bus with Alex because she knew the area and he did not. He got out at the big goose monument, which is well outside town, more than a km from her home.
There of course was no particular reason for them to interact on the bus. Why include her in that scene? Anyone's guess on that one. Mine is the director thought it might be cute to see how many people recognized her later on.
Also, Cable, for future reference, it's "next door", not "next store". And I think Maggie lived on the next street and her and Linda's backyards abutted.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much. -- ALOTO
