I thought the handicap kid was a dick

I was not sympathetic to his character. He didn't respect other people's boundaries, he was clearly a hypocrite regarding keeping Shazam a secret, he lied and said Billy promised to have lunch with him, and them called him a bully for absolutely no reason. I get he was bitter at life, but he needed something redeeming about him, and it's certainly messed up that Billy was made to look like the bad guy.

He was also a young teen In this movies year, forgive him for flaws as he is not wise or experienced. Poor Kid.

reply

I think that was kind of the point, or part of it. Billy needed to feel he was part of an actual family - and in families, you can fight and you make up. At least when you're young, you can say the harshest things, but you also get over it quickly and it doesn't ruin the relationship or expel you from the family.

But it's also just realistic. Freddy, a teenage boy with a disability, watches his new family member get everything he's ever wanted, and he feels left out and jealous. Normal response.

reply

Agreed. Freddy had flaws just like anyone else.

reply

Right? I edited my post to clarify who I'm talking about, but yes, he has normal flaws.

reply

I don’t think Billy was presented as the bad guy. I thought the movie portrayed both kids as being jerks on some level.

reply

You do not diss Freddy in front of me!

Billy DID promise to have lunch with him, but Billy got distracted and forgot. Why do you think he reacted that way when Freddy reminded him after throwing his underwear at him? (because he was humiliated at school) What's more, Billy made it up to him in spades, even bringing along Superman as well. Not to mention that the entire foster family became superheroes as well.

Freddy was actually my favourite character, being played as he was by the excellent Jack Dylan Grazer.

reply

Yeah I agree, Jack Dylan Grazer definitely was an highlight for me as well. The kid has terrific comedic timing. He stole some of the spotlight just like he did in "IT"

reply

Yeah, I also thought he was kind of a d1ck. Now some say "oh buy thats how you would react in such circumstance". Not really. We've had this situation in other comicbook films and the friend didnt react like a jealous douchebag. I prefer it that way. Because it kinda distracted me, being annoying by his presence.
