53M Opening Weekend. Lowest for a DCEU film. Ouch!

Ha, ha, ha... yes, another phenomenal hit for DC, of course... Ha, ha, ha.

Now lets start having fun with the collection of excuses we are going to see from now on... Pathetic...

OK! i din't want to go there, but since you seem too stupid to read or even click on the information.

reply

That $57 Million is the estimated Box Office to date (which included pre-screenings) and the estimated Box Office take for this weekend was as ranmast posted.

reply

Double ouch!

reply

It made 155M opening weekend WorldWide, that is almost the same amount Captain Marvel did on OW but just in domestic Box Office

reply

You really do not take everything into consideration with that comment. The film was less expansive to make than the majority of comic book films! It was less expansive to make than Wonder Woman or Aquaman, they spent way less on it than Captain Marvel so as the opening week end number did about the same as captain marvel, Shazam made a bigger profit than captain Marvel did on his opening week end! It's a win for DC and WB for sure!

reply

Budget? How much Disney or WB spent? Who cares about that. Are you worried for these Mega Companies profits? This is about what a movie can make and how many people they can bring to the theaters. And there was no competition, none.

However, if you think that the profit of the first weekend of Shazam is bigger than Captain Marvel, then you are dumber than you think;

Shazam OW WW: 155M
Captain Marvel OW WW: 456M

Captain Marvel made 3 times more than Shazam and it did not cost three times what Shazam cost. And that is the simpler analysis, because the the highest domestic box office give a lot more advantage to CM.

reply

Who cares about that? lol The budget is equal to profit, it makes a huge difference. I am just stating that to WB the film was a win, they are going to get their money back plus more and that is what counts when it comes to get a sequel green lighted and the likes. Not all superheroes films need to reach the billion dollar club to be considered a success. Jeez over-reacting much! Grab some green tea and chill! No need to get personal and call anyone stupid! Shazam had a lot less going for it than Captain Marvel, it did not tie with "Endgame" it had no major famous actor in it. It was a inexpensive in comparison to other comic book films, It was as much a kids film than it was a film for adults as it features mostly children.. so taking everything into consideration it is a win for DC so far and it exceeded their expectation when it comes to OW number. If WB release their numbers and are very vocal about how happy they are, it's a pretty good sign! They certainly did not do that for justice League. So I will take WB excitement over the BO results as context of the film doing well more than your personal vendetta against a film just because you want to mock DC

reply

Bravo! Well said, well said, I couldn't agree more....the Marvel fantastic will use any tactic in order to mock DC even if it isn't a valid reason.

Yea clearly, we the "fantastic" at least mock a soulless corporation (DC) and not mock and make fun of the dead father of another human being in this board just because he beat you in an argument, you are creepy and shameless...

reply

Well, for me personally.. you started calling me stupid out of the blue, I have not attacked you personally at all..So you calling others shameless is rather hypocritical. But as I posted before there is no point continuing that conversation with you, it will go nowhere as you obviously have a deep hatred for DC so you will not takes others opinion into consideration unless they agree with you. I love both DC and Marvel so I prefer more productive exchange. But I hope you have a good day!

reply

Ha, ha, ha... Great win for DC, yeah! ha, ha, ha... I am pretty sure a Major League team sending them to play against a College Level team won't be celebrating that kind of win. But hey, some fans are stupid that way. This is the lowest OW take for any DCEU movie, and all you have to celebrate the "win" is that the movie cost little, ha, ha, ha... All these movies make back their budget and are profitable, again I couldn't care less how much Disney or WB make on profit, this is about popularity. Budget has nothing to do with popularity or how good the OW is, this opening week is bad whatever the budget is. Ask Deadpool, 58M budget with 132M OW domestic, now that's a win. But again you want Shazam be compared with the low, low end of CBM, well yes, that's where it belongs.

reply

"Yawn" I'm gonna leave you now, I'm bored

reply

...on an 80 million dollar budget.

I think the real "ouch!" award this weekend has to go to Dumbo which suffered a 60% decline in it's second weekend(which is almost unheard of for a family film) and has made a grand total of 75 million domestically after two weeks.

Dumbo's production budget was double that of Shazam's at 170 million.

OUCH!

reply

Closer to 100 million OW...that was YOUR quote.

So, just man up for once and admit you talk out of your ass.

You ass.

reply

Can you ever respond without using vulgar language and/or name-calling?

I will give you props for not using the word "incel" in a post for once.

reply

Ha, ha, ha... Keep bringing the production budget all you want, because i culdn't care less how much Disney or WB make for their movies. All this is about popularity and people watching the movies. So, no. While Captain Marvel manage to bring the theaters 3 times more people than Shazam, you keep talking about budgets, ha. So, for a Super Hero movie, Shazam is nothing more than a fiasco.

Dumbo, that's your response to Shazam fiasco, Dumbo? Ha, ha, ha, ha..... We are comparing Comic Book Movies here, why bring the kids movies here? Oh, certainly, I forgot Shazam is a kiddie, no sorry, a toddler movie and you seem to agree with this...

reply

I think what's going to be the final nail in the Shazam coffin is not that they can't even use the characters real name but that those idiots at WB put it between the actual Captain Marvel movie and Avengers Endgame which will just destroy this.

Plus....it's a DC movie and so far, the best they've done is....snicker....Aquaman.

reply

Amen!

reply

It's called the Movie BUSINESS so...budget's and profits and losses certainly matter.

reply

Its gonna be a rough ride considering its total is up in the $200 million range with ad costs included. I'm not saying it can't do it but its floating around 1/3rd of CM's profits. And CM didn't cost anywhere near 3x as much to make.

reply

So, Captain Marvel is more popular than infant Shazam...

reply

https://www.the-numbers.com/

Actuals in. In fact 53 Millions opening weekend as the estimations predicted. Ouch!

reply

159 million worldwide opening weekend on an 80 million dollar budget is hardly an "ouch".

The biggest "ouch" at the box office right now is Dumbo.

reply

Poor delusional Queen. Production budget is 100M. Dumbo is not a CBM so I don't care and this crappy and kiddie film couldn't even tie with Ant-Man, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha... Ant-Man... ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...

WORST OPENING WEEKEND FOR A DCEU MOVIE... that's not good at all...

reply

$100M production budget, official.

Add in marketing/advertising expenses and it will make minimal profit during its theater run.

Yep

Over the years I’ve enjoyed seeing certain DCEU fanatics get a taste of their own medicine. The trolling they’ve been responsible for has epically backfired more than once. But, screw these vocal but small trolls.

Shazam could’ve done better, although all things considered the movie is so far performing quite well. Though it certainly didn’t make a splash like many (not including the anti-Captain Marvel whinos) thought it was going to, evidently it’s got some ok buzz surrounding it. Not only is it a fine movie, but as much as this will trigger some fans and non-fans of this movie, tonally it certainly felt like something you would get from the MCU, only... it’s far more kiddish and still not as colorful, lol.

I still wouldn’t call it a special or GREAT movie like some are claiming it is (so superior to a certain rival movie according to the cool kids? I seriously don’t see how), but all in all it’s a good and fun time overall. Everyone should just take those sticks out their asses and stop taking everything so seriously. And yes, I’m obviously joking about that! :D Humans be petty creatures.

reply

Well, no box office news today. Why? Is something weird happening to this movie today? What about the good legs? Nothing to report?
