something like this ACTUALLY happened to me

i had a really creepy thing happen to me awhile back, i started talking to this girl on myspace, and im gonna leave alot of details out cause im too lazy to type all of them, but to make a long story short she was hella good at lying and made every reason why we never were able to meet pretty believable, plus with no motive to lie to me i didnt question it really... we talked on the phone sometimes but never actually met. but after awhile i really started piecing the puzzle togeather and thats when it hit me... the person i was talking to and became very close to for a year DID NOT EXIST. i called the college she claimed she went to... they said no student by that name goes there, and then little creepy stuff dawned on me, like for instance... the reason she used phone cards to call me is because it scrambles the area code on the caller i.d. so i'd never actually be able to tell where she was calling from, and the reason her computer suddenly stopped working with her camera when she "went off to college" was so she'd have an excuse not to send me any pictures of her on campus. this wasnt just a simple practicle joke on me either, this girl and me would talk for like 6 hours every day and were serious about being togeather when she "got back from college" she also made up all kinds of stories about how she was sick and had to give herself injections every night. for a long time i wondered what the hell happened and why someone would lie to me like that, then one day i saw this movie on tv and was like "HOLY $#!+" !!!! i cant even express how creeped out i was because i completely understood exactly what was happening, it was very similar to what happened to me, im pretty glad i saw this movie just because it really gave me some closure that there are just some sick people out there with this "ficticious disorder". im also alot less nieave about people i talk to online, like now when i talk to people on facebook i pay close attention to their photos to actually see if i recognize stuff in the background from my city, like a local coffee shop or something

A similiar thing happend to me which is why this movie was so engaging to me! I could relate so easily and it just made it all the more compelling.
Did you ever find out who the girl was or why she was making all that stuff up?
would be very interested to hear more about it =)

"i had a really creepy thing happen to me a while back , i started talking to this girl on myspace" the latter information in that sentence made the former, superfluous:P

The girl you were talking to did exist though? The scenario in the film is a lot less common whereas what you describe is, unfortunately, very common. I'm intrigued, you say you were "serious about being togeather" yet you didn't even know what she looked like? or did she have a picture on myspace?

For me, if I were ever to "get serious" about someone online (which isn't a good idea anyway for a myriad of reasons) I would want to see the person I am talking to face to face on webcam sooner, rather than later. If they kept putting me off then alarm bells would surely ring. Because mate, a year is along time to waste on somebody, as you did.

You guys should read up on Manti Te'o, a linebacker that plays for the Chargers, and his ordeal with his online "girlfriend". He got duped big time.
