Ronno

What is the deal with him? What does he say or do in Bambi 2.

reply

Ronno is a rival to Bambi and he's just kind a bully.

Some reviews of "Bambi II" described Ronno as a new added character that is not in the original movie, but this is wrong: His name was not mentioned in the 1942 original movie, but Ronno was the buck that tries to take Faline away from Bambi and in a dramatic stag-fight Bambi defeated him and wins Faline's heart.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER*

I didn't think Ronno was an idiot. He just happened to be an egotistical deer who felt really insecure with himself and wanted to feel better of himself by bragging about all the things he might possibly do, like not feeling pain after running himself into a tree. I guess that eventually, he learned to toughen himself up and become the mysterious adversary of Bambi as we know him in the original film.

When in the original is he mentioned? I know he's mentioned in the book-as an older fully developed stag during Bambi's youth. I remember a Shirly Temple narrative on an LP that mentions him as an adult rival, but never by name in the original. Neither was Faline's mom by name, which was Aunt Ena.

That and they look kind of similar with markings and such. Ronno in the original film had heavy markings around the eyes (I remember very well as it made Ronno look really aggressive to me, which was kind of scary) and the Ronno in the film is similar in that sort of way.

It also makes a lot of sense for a motive behind the stag-fight, although I sort of preferred the whole this-is-what-nature-is-like thing.

I thought incorporating Ronno as a character was the biggest mistake of the movie. He added nothing to the story, and he just came across as an idiot.

Although his name was not mentioned in the original movie dialogue, it is his name in books and things from the movie. He also fought Bambi over Faline in the original novel.

I said that he WAS in the original movie and book. The reason I did not like the addition was because of how they prtrayed the character.

So Ronno tells Bambi his dad dosen't love him? Geez what a butt.

reply

Ronno was in the book by Felix Saltin if you read the book you will notice that in the book Ronno is older than Bambi and is a bully to him and vies for Faline's affections the fight in the book is actually a lot worse than what they depicted in the original Bambi. You have to read the book to understand where all of this is coming from.

reply

He is the buck that bambi fights in the original movie to win Faline. Read the novel and you would see the similarity to the two movies when ronno comes into play.

"he's too different in this one, a loser"

You're right. In the original movie, Ronno came across as a worthy adversary. In this one he came across as an idiot. They really didn't do his character justice.

I think the book might be out-of-print, but you should be able to find it in a library or used book store. It is just called Bambi, and is by Felix Salten. It is a children's novel, but I would not recommend it for very small children, since there's some pretty gruesome stuff in it. Even so, I'm an adult, and I still enjoy reading it when I have a free afternoon.

I think it's good that they brought him back as an actual speaking character. In the first movie it seemed Ronno came out of nowhere to try to take Faline, but this way we get an idea of his character and where he is comming from.

reply

They made Ronno look like a mamma's boy in this movie, i liked him better in the first one, he was more of a mystery in the first one. :)

I agree. It was really good how they kept Bambi sweet, friendly and lovable instead of making him all angsty.

They have to all be momma's boys..that how deer's actually are.
Still I do like the way they've actually given an insight into WHY Ronno tries to take Faline in the first film. Yay for history's of rivalry!

reply

He had 2 rivals in the book. Ronno & Karus.

I think they added him because they needed a new "villian" (besides Man) and they wanted to corellate with the story at the same time. Ronno also adds more humor to the movie.

Ronno kicks ass man! Great animation, and he was the best deer out of them all. He should have a whole movie dedicated for himself. Now I'm sad he dies in the first, he didn't deserve it. Bambi is a puss compared to him, Ronno just has more character to him.

EDIT: I just saw the first Bambi and am happy to be mistaken that he doesn't die. Yes!

Ronno did not die in the original movie. He was only defeated by Bambi in a stag-fight. After he fall down the slope, he realized, that Bambi is stronger, and run away.

I just saw the first and remebered. My memory told me he fell down this bigass cliff but it was actually tiny.

Yes, it is a vere short shot, in wich you can see, that Ronno stand up after his fall. Only 1 second or so. The very next shot is on Bambi and Faline standing on the cliff.

I don't think Ronno did die. After the battle, he gets thrown down the hill and then you see him limping away. He might have died in the forest fire or something, but other than that, he is alive.
