Lion King Characteristics

I haven't seen this movie (yet!), but in the trailer when Bambi and his dad are standing on that rock, doesn't it remind you of The Lion King's Pride Rock???

Very similar pictures are already in the original Bambi-movie from 1942: Bambis dad on a lookout rock, Bambi and Faline on a rock, and in the last camera-shot of the movie Bambi and his dad on the lookout rock again. It's the other way round: TLK got a lot from the 1942 original motion picture. Even Mufasas dead is very similar to the death of Bambis mom. Especially if you compare the "camera-work" and the complete build-up of the scene (dust instead of snowstorm, remote views of a desperate Bambi/Simba etc.). The only major difference is, that Simba found his dead father in the end of the scene (this was first planned for "Bambi" too, but it was not gripping enough for Walt Disney. If you know the early story-meetings for this scene, you will realize, the Mufasa-Scene is a "re enactment" of a very early draft of the scene, in wich Bambis mom died)

"What happened mother? Why did we all run?"
"Man... was in the forest."

That's true. I guess all movies are kinda copied off something else, if you think about it. I must rent Bambi and Bambi II...

You know where this film REALLY borrowed from a lot? The Land Before Time. Heck, the lines are practically identical. After a while, Bambi even starts sounding like Littlefoot and both Bambi and Littlefoot's mothers sound the same too.

reply

Actually they also borrowed a line from Forrest Gump. I recall Faline telling Bambi to "Run Bambi!" when Ronno was pursuing him lol.

reply

how's that borrowing..i've heard "run ....!" all the time in movies...actually in forest gump she says "run forest run!"

"hey howdy hey! thats me on a yoyo!"

Yay! I finally saw this movie!! It was really good. The only thing it didn't really like about it was at the begining it was too... well it was too glossy and Disney like! 'There Is Life' could have been a song from something like 'Belle's Magical Christmas' or something, totally irrelevent to what Bambi had just been through. Thankfully, it picked itself up and was a great faamily movie! It even got a tear from me when Bambi realised his mother wasn't coming back. I loved it! =D

reply

Well, I don't know about lines being identical, but I thought Bambi sounded a lot like Littlefoot when he was calling out "Mother!" after his mother died. It almost sounded like the same voice.

reply

yeah, for sure. not even subtly.

started looking a little suspicious when Ronno launches into that bit -- "There I was... all alone with the sharptooth. I mean... man."

Then mere moments later, Bambi's mother, sounding practically like a sample from Land Before Time says she'll always be there even if he can't see her... followed by Bambi hearing a dreamy voice and chasing after it yelling "mother!". I could just be paranoid after so many scenes of rip-offishness, but the real clincher was when, for an instant, a light hit Bambi, casting his shadow on a large rock behind him. although Bambi didn't go chasin after it calling it "Mother", It almost comes across as a very snide allusion to LBT, like "yeah, we've been ripping you off, Don Bluth, but not quite closely enough that you can prove it."

as for TLK, well, TLK borrowed a bit too heavilly from Kimba, whose creator has often stated that the look of his characters borrow very heavily from Bambi. It's the Circle of Life!

I definitely know what you're talking about, and yeah, I can see that connection. But in my opinion, Lion King >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> this.
