Anybody else have dubbed version?

I was shocked to find that my DVD copy of this film had been dubbed entirely into English. Almost all French films these days appear in their original language. What's up?

Didn't dubbing die a well-deserved death about 25 years ago? Catherine Deneuve and Monica Bellucci speaking in refined British (English) accents sounds (and looks) ridiculous. Dubbing removes a huge amount of emotion from the original actors' voices. This loss of natural language flow is inevitable, and it's one of the reasons dubbing was done away with it, or at least I THOUGHT it was done away with.

Is that the UK DVD? The R1 DVD has both French and English soundtracks. No English subtitles though, which is unacceptable.

This was flat-out dubbing in English ONLY. No subtitles whatever. Deneuve, Bellucci, etc. were all speaking French and English voices were coming from their mouths. A huge turn-off. It might have been a good film; who knows, and who cares? This kind of stuff is unacceptable in this day and age. I was shocked because it's the first time I've seen a modern French film (made in 2006 of all things!!) that was not subtitled into English.

I quite agree; I want to know what sounds the director got from the actors. I was surprised my copy from BlockBuster was dubbed.
