Thinking of Starting This Series

Hello, I've been considering watching this and I had a couple of questions.

First off how are the 3 OVAs related to the 13 episode run? Are they a retelling, extension, prologue or like an alternate reality sort of thing?

Second, well what type of show is it really. I don't know a whole lot about it aside from a few basic genre categories and I'm too paranoid of spoilers to read the comments or search too much through the boards. I hate when important plot points are spoiled for me so if you could give a little information to get the gist across or maybe some comparison shows that I might have seen and are similar that would be cool.

Is it more action or drama oriented? What sort of fantasy; is that meaning just the era or is it laden with magical type beings?

Thanks in advance, any helpful comments are appreciated.

Don't watch the 3 OVAs until you watch the 13 episode run. They continue the story after the 13 episode run. Also, this show is a bit confusing at first, but really good at introducing the history of characters and how they relate. If you watch it on WAM, they are going in three show spurts. Typically one of the shows is more informational, one is more drama, and one is finally the resolution with a ton of action coming into play.

It's more mystically oriented and not so much Harry Potter magical. If you have seen the anime movie X, and liked it, you will like this show. It's very slick, tightly written, and emotionally packed. Try it. You will probably like it as long as you don't have a problem with gay undertones that become a bit overt in the 3 OVAs.

Wow... Thanks for the response and the information. I'd forgotten all about this actually. I never did watch the show but I may yet. I never heard anything back about this so I went with another show and then another from there and I kind of forgot about this one. If I do watch it I'll most likely just download it so I can watch from the beginning and watch it at my own pace, instead of waiting for WAM episodes. If it's good enough then maybe I'll buy it to throw some support to the creators.

I very vaguely remember watching X a long time ago and the only thing I can really remember is that the dub was exceptionally bad and that turned me off to the whole thing; I don't really remember the plot at all.

I think I can handle the gay stuff, as long as it doesn't get too graphic. I have a gay friend and a lesbian sister, but even so I still have my limits of what I want to see y'know. As long as it isn't bordering on pornographic and it's all done fairly tastefully then it's alright.

I'm already trying to watch 3 anime shows at the moment, not to mention other shows on tv and real life always getting in the way, but I think I'll put this on the 'to watch' list again.

You should... the dubbing is excellent. The voice talent does a phenomenal job. When I compare it to X, it's in the anime artistic lines. Very lean angled imagery and long, thin torsos. X's plot was a bit simple... do not mistake this show for such simplicity. It has quite a bit going on in it and encases all it's characters in a main story while letting them all have their own personal backstories as well.

The "gay" love scene is not too graphic in my own personal opinion. It doesn't show any body parts and is more emotionally wrought with the intensity of feelings between the two men and the flashbacks that occur to Kagetera/Takaya in the midst of the scene.

I am not a huge fan of anime. In fact, X is the only anime film I had seen before watching this show. And now, I can easily say Mirage of Blaze is one of the best shows I have watched in a long while. It's very addictive.
