Loved this film!

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much, but I was blown away by how hysterical this movie was. Had to pause the DVD a few times cause I was laughing so hard

"Can I steal it?"

"Well, considering it's the church's most prized possession, and it's guarded by several paladins in the room, that would probably be suicide. Go right ahead!"

"What do you have against peasants, murderous trollop?"

"Just a general, all-purpose loathing."

Watching this movie was like my nostalgia had been filmed. Each stereotype, including the GM who wants to be a RPG designer, I've played with many times.

I fully intend to show this with past gamer friends and see if they recognize the same stereotypical culprits.

If you buy a ticket for a remake, you are the problem, not Hollywood.

I don't know how well it plays to non-gamers, or to those who have only played online, but I think most tabletop RPGers will love it.

Yeah, I don't think people unfamiliar with what was being lampooned would enjoy this movie much. Thinking back, if I didn't know the tabletop culture, this flick would've been subpar to me.

The online folk? I would think they would get it. While online MMOG's don't really have the stereotypes mocked in TGDR (player vs character knowledge, what's that?), they have their own cadre of boneheads which are similar. I think they can relate. Gold farmers, griefers, leet speakers, over obsessive group leaders, noobs, etc.

To be honest i have NEVER played D'n'D tabletop (or any tabletop rpg for that matter) the only thing that comes close is playing Neverwinter Nights 1&2 on PC but i understood pretty much all of the memes, really it was a gem for the budget they were on and the acting wasn't that bad.

I got sooooo many laughs from this movie--loved it! I definitely recognized a lot of situations and personalities from my past gaming experience.

Quick, hide behind the pile of dead bards!

I laughed so hard I had to stop the movie to recover... and my wife looked at me like I was from Mars. god I miss gaming.

Yeah, it was awesome. I just about died from laughing so hard. There's something so cynical about most people I meet, and I always think back to my gaming days as the time when most of the people I knew were intelligent, fun, and genuinely decent human beings. This was a big trip down memory lane for me.
