Can Basketball Games Really Make Or Break People In High Schools?

I mean, seriously! The guy played only ONE game, which made him insanely popular and then again a single game was all that it took to ruin his social status. I am not an American, so I don't know if it happens in real high schools, but the idea seems strange to me. Does anyone think it really does happen?

It depends what the school focuses more on. In my town football was a big deal, and if you were a good football player you would be popular, if you played and sucked, you would forever be a loser. Unless you are the son of an influencial person in town, then you are garanteed playing time.
