Abrupt end of cross-dressing scene

Some others have commented on the gender issues at play in this film.

I found one of the most memorable scenes to be the wig party/cross-dressing scene.

It was quite intense in a way - I found myself wondering how different the scene would feel if it was a group of men cajoling a lone woman - a tipsy stranger - in the same way. There was a sense of menace and humiliation, but also Alan's vulnerability and sadness left an impression.

Then, just as he puts on the dress and he's readjusting his wig, alone in the bathroom, the film cuts abruptly to the next day.

That cut was genius in a way, I thought. It sort of resolves the scene in a way that nothing else could've. You're left wondering "what happened next?", and the scene retains its power.

It sort of represents what I find compelling about this film and others in the genre (such as The Puffy Chair) - their willingness to accept ambiguity and imaginative suggestion as reasonable outcomes.

I'm curious about people's ideas regarding what happened at the wig-party after the cut.
