This is not a Horror, this movie sucked

I saw the movie, and in the first half i was anoyed by killing the cow´s.
In the seccond half, it began... But it was not scary. And i wassn´t the only person in the theater who found this movie bad.

I´m sorry if you don´t agree, but is what i think

reply

i absolutely agree with you, very boring, no scary, and very bad movie. I saw it yesterday in sitges festival, i was very disappointed

reply

It's a sad day for Irish cinema when tne best we can come up with is mutated cows that kill people... if it were tongue-in-cheek I wouldn't mind but this film wanted to be taken seriously. Train wreck.

reply

Actually, Isolation was a very well crafted horror film that serves as an interesting warning sign of things to come. Perhaps better intentions than actual filmmaking, it is still a feature of many interesting ideas. The horror genre could do much, much worse.

reply

Couldn't agree more...if someone doesn't find the actual subject matter as frightening...they would do well to read up on some current scientific experimentation.

<i>Couldn't agree more...if someone doesn't find the actual subject matter as frightening...they would do well to read up on some current scientific experimentation.</i>

Like what, name something? (Something from the applied commercial biology sector, since that's what this movie was dealing with)

The most significant hybridization experiments right now are centered around drought resistant nutrient rich crops for the third world. Or gene therapies for muscular dystrophy.

I really enjoy horror movies, and I thought this one was pretty good. But that Europeans think this movie has anything to do with actual genetic research is itself scary to me! The scientist guy altered the genes for growth hormone release and it results in evil aliens being created? Do you actually think that even a very mild version of this is a real risk?

The real risk in this area is some group like Aum Shinrikyo or Al Qaeda getting their hands on a virulent flu strain, hybridizing it with H5N1 (avian flu) and then releasing it. The best response to that, is extensive research so we know how to respond and threat these things. Even without nefarious people, there will eventually be a very effective virus (just a question of time) that develops naturally. The only question is if we'll be able to respond to it or not.

reply

What makes you think that Europeans think like that? Because this is a European movie? Well, we could easily find movies from any country which describe science in a very odd way.

reply

[deleted]

How about altering genes so goats secrete Spider silk? That's happening. If people think we aren't experimenting with genes then they're just daft.

"You and me are goin' on a car-ride to hell... and you're riding shotgun! "

reply

Because this movie hasn't to do the least with actual science, this movie was so terrible.

Bill's got it on the head. It's the first time in ages i didnt know the plot before i'd even started watching the film

reply

It's a sad day for imdb when all the comments you see are from people who obviously didn't get the films they just watched.

reply

Its sad that, this move had actors with skills who delivered quite strong performances but the script/plot was so terribly weak... It was a dull boring overly long movie. Had it been a 1 hour made for TV drama then it would be forgivable, but as a movie it was as pooey as the terrain around this movies set...

reply

This movie's plot wasn't any 'weaker' than your average hollywood movie. What I really, really liked about this movie was the pacing and the overall atmosphere. Yes, the basic idea behind this movie has been done a hundred times before, but it's rarely been as effectively (imo!) as this movie.

reply

(a few spoilers ahead)

well said irigy...

however i don't think you should be as hesitant in giving the movie praise :)

it is very deserving of praise

and the basic idea of this movie hasn't actually been done a hundered times before in "purely horror" movies...

can you think of even one moment in the movie where there was a lighthearted joke? it doesn't even give you that....it's perfectly done on that front....as a horror....and it's so praiseworthy because THAT is such a risk...to go full blown like that where people could go "oh dearrrrr....how seriously this movie takes itself!" so many horror movies these days have that fall back.....with some humour....where people can say oh comeon don't take it THAT seriously!

also you don't get that many horror movies dealing with this type of really....really uncomfortable subject matter...especially since Alien....cos a lot of people are worried about their movie being labelled as a rip off of alien or a wannabe alien movie....i mean like alien in the sense of something "entering" us....bursting out...parasites....pregnancy...body invasion...using the human body (as well as animals) as hosts..etc etc

and how many horror movies have there been featuring cows to such an extent?? lol so it is original and brave on that front...because of the knowledge that that wouldn't be the easiest thing to sell and promote and make a lot of money out of...that plotline/storyline.

it almost sounds like it would be a comedy horror....a movie no a farm with all these cows...and again such a temptation to put in that more lighthearted humour factor...(eg severance went full blown with the humour as a big fall back/cop out)

this is a great brit/irish horror....with a very what i call "brit horror" style

i agree with you completely about the pacing and the atmosphere....brilliant atmosphere....i don't even wanna check how much of a budget they had....but i don't think i need to....cos my impression and my gut tells me that however much they had puts to shame so many big budget movies being churned out these days

they got the lighting also spot on....it wasn't too dark which could easily have happened....at various parts

the acting was really really good, convincing and on the mark most of the time as well...and never went below a sufficiently good level that i noticed or remembered

i wasn't once "taken out of the movie" by silly over the top cgi or anything like that

i was uncomfortable SO MANY TIMES....and on the edge of my seat....and it made me jump a few times as well....the score was very effective as well....and the sound....which contributed really well to the making you jump factor and the suspense

this is the kind of horror movie which will scare....during the movie....and even afterwards....no matter what age you are....because of one of the most uncomfortable subject matters there is...i mean as a guy i can't really imagine what it's like for a female watching a horror movie like this...for obvious reasons...in the same way as how the themes in alien affect a woman much more so than they would a man (because women have/will have/have had something developing and growing and alive inside of them..and coming out of them)...there should be more of these types of horrors made

and a "simple" plot for a horror movie can be a "great" thing....and effective thing....as opposed to something far fetched or way too layered....and it also that way keeps it as "horror" as opposed to going into "thriller" territory ((or other genres)) with forced twists for example....if this was made in hollywood they woulda stuck in a few more twists...definately...like a twist that one of the couple who were hiding outside the farm would be someone in the know...more involved in this thing...and would be the guy who ended up attacking someone....like a gorman in aliens character....someone who was gonna protect this "new species" for the govt lol etc

the scientist guy simply wanted to destroy the creature and think of the bigger picture and felt that he had to stop anyone getting out and put em down in a similar way to how he'd just put down one of the cows....take no chances with anyone who's infected...him being the only one there....he never flipped and made out that this species could have tests done on it or should be protected...at least he never flipped in that kind of way

in summary: this movie is a gem of a horror movie...bloody glad that i saw it and bloody glad that it "exists" out there. very well done to all the film makers and actors involved.

p.s. only one thing i can think about offhand that annoyed me at the time...when the guy drove in with the tractor and it got stuck....why didn't he keep the lights on firstly (ok the lights may have died..that's the small thing) but moreso: why didn't he or why didn't either of them shout GET ON THE ROOF! that's the first thing to do...be calm..don't panic...just get onto that roof first thing...start from a safe position...look around...and then see if u can jump to the left or right...or just stay there till there's any sign of it or any sigh of movement...of course..it was very scarey when he had to wade through the water...and i was feeling like that cos i just didn't want him to go in there! but i think that most people in that situation would really have done that or either of the other two would tell him to do that...so the filmmakers might have been able to put him in a situation beforehand which made him more forced to have to wade through the water/mud...like the tractor sinking down more...or an entirely different way of him ending up in there...i know it was also how he was gonna find the body of the vet

reply

Saw this for the first time last night

thought it was a well made film, with strong performances....

reply

Totally agreed, i thought isolation was a grim classic

reply

Not a good horror film???? my lord what has the world come to? After suffering my way through the most recent atrocity called Alien's vs Predator 2 (or something like that), I popped in this film. Isolation had tension from start to finish, great atmosphere and very original story. Yeah, cows...kinda weird, but the mutant idea was well done. If only AVP2 had an ounce of the tension this film had.

reply

Hands down one of the scariest and most disturbing, but also most beautifully shot horror movies I've seen until that day. Of course, if someone expects the usual scary monster and mean slasher movie, this will be a deceit. This movie is highly intelligent. It actually has a plot and a subplot that both work well. It did hardly leave me a moment to breathe or finish my beer. I give it 10 point.

reply

I liked the "LIfe of Lawrence Welk" best. A horror to behold!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

This movie was actually shown in a theater?

reply

It's a GREAT movie. The overall atmosphere was very bleak and creepy! Great SFX as well!!

I agree with begotten's post. Great movie.

I thought this was the best horror movie I had seen in a long time.

It's sad that everyone finds everything so sad.
I loved it. Yes, the premise is pretty kooky, but I love how they made a genuinely scary, well crafted movie out of it. It almost makes the movie even cooler that they could actually make something great with such a challenging idea for a movie. My only major criticism was that there were many obvious similarities to other better movies like Alien and The Thing, but what's cool is that this isn't even an alien movie. It didn't take place in space, there were no extraterrestrial life forms invading and neither were the parasites the scariest monsters in the film. Th epoint was that we brought this terror upon ourselves. I really thought the slasher scientist was the most despicable creature in the entire movie.

reply

very good. for a "pick it up to get the popcorn offer in blockbuster" deal DVD, i was very surprsed.

reply

I just saw the movie a few minutes with two others and we thought it was one of the most creepy films we ever seen. The film uses its environment, subject matter, and its character to develop a downright creepy mood to the film. I thought the film was quite an achievement for an indie flick, and we finally see a horror film that uses suspense without any ghosts like in Japanese horror. Plotwise, it wasn't wholly original, but i loved how it took the 'Aliens' plot and made it realisitic, and not involve some other planets and an intergalactic species.

reply

Just saw isolation.

I found that although it has some qualities (both realism of the filming and subject) it was, in the end, a monster movie without a monster, unless one consider the little flabby crawling beast of the end as something frightening. (disgusting doesn't mean frightening). To me, it just looked like pieces of garbage glued together and not like something dangerous. A predator must be a very fit creature, a "perfect organism" ("Alien") and not a completely degenerated one.

As a matter of fact the problem is not with the creature itself, but that the director/writer used this unconvincing "attack" as the dramatic climax, instead of inventing something more appropriate to their own subject (wich is more "creepy" indeed) .

reply

i Just saw this tonight and with all the blood i figured this would go right to dvd

reply

I have to disagree, I really enjoyed this movie. Made me feel genuinely uncomfortable in places, which is a feat that most big budget supposed Horrors of recent years can't boast. It was well shot and edited, with great performances and solid fx. Script and storyline are not wonderfull, but a worthy addition to a developing Irish interest in the genre.

Little pigs, little pigs, we've come to nick ya video.

reply

I have only seen the trailer and look forward to seeing the film. I don't believe I'll be disappointed.

reply

SO TRUE! MOVIE REALLY THE WORST I EVER SAW.

THIS IS JUNK, BRAINWASH, STUPID AND TOTALLY WASTE OF TIME.

JUST AVOID THIS FILM FROM YOUR LIFE - BECAUSE YOU WONT LOSE ANYTHING.

Actually to completely convince you after seeing that movie I got brain cancer and now am dead... this post is made by a friend as I asked in my will...

Acting: Very Good. Much better than average for horror movies.

Setting: The farm was very creepy. However, I found it hard to believe that there would be all that standing and stagnant water around. I would think the main farmer, who showed compassion for his animals, would have had a better facility. Especially the second pregnant cow that was always standing in water. I know cows will stand in water, but this seemed excessive.

Plot: While I agree with many of the posters about the dangers of GMOs. This seemed especially far fetched. Towards the end where the main doctor draws his own blood to mix with the cow cells, the cells then merged into a new organism. I had issues with this and did not find it believable. Also, the degree of mutation from a placid grass muncher into some sort of parasitical monster was hard to believe.

This killed the movie for me. 3/10

reply

the idea is that it can happen! they already make animal human hybrids in real life.they grow spair parts with ivf, and human parts for transplant on animals. so why not geneticly modified fu**ed up cow feotus that kills.do we realy know what pharmacutical company`s like smithklyn beecham or glaxo get up to behind closed doors, modifying cows to grow quicker and born pregnant whould increse peoples income more meat more milk ect makes more money for farms shops but most of all the company that invented it.so it is a belivable horror movie to close to reality

good lord...

anyways, I just watched this movie again for the second time and loved it even more than the first time. Great scares, great story and acting! A must see IMO.

reply

I watched this film for the first time this week, alone, at night, in the dark, during a four-day power outage from a hurricane that barrelled through OHIO (Ike) !!!!!!! It is every bit as creepy and unsettling as commenters have said it was. It's very moody and tense, the acting is dead-bang on the money, and there are moments of genuine scariness that I haven't seen in a film since 'Alien'. I will most certainly watch it again (and probably, several times after that, too) but this time, I think I'll watch it during the day. With lights blazing.

This film just seemed like a poor man's 'Alien' rip off. I wanted to be scared but I couldn't seeing as this horror film evolved around cows.

I preferred Black Sheep... it made more sense. Check it out.

Count me as another to disagree with the OP... I seriously can't think of another movie that had me wincing, squirming and jumping as much this one! Creepy as hell! I can see where the ADD-crowd would find it "slow" but I thought the pace and the eerie setting were *very* effective. And, sure, there were plenty of those illogical "WHY are you doing *THAT*!?!? Get OUT of there!!" character-moments... but I give a 7 out of 10 overall, and look fwd to what might be next.

"I seriously can't think of another movie that had me wincing, squirming and jumping as much this one! Creepy as hell!"

I totally agree with you here! I'm a horror films collector, so I have seen tons of them, but this one was one of the most scary and creepy I have ever seen.

"there were plenty of those illogical "WHY are you doing *THAT*!?!? Get OUT of there!!" character-moments..."

Come on, it's a film. It doesn't have to be very realistic. Sure realism helps when trying to get creepy athmosphere.

And someone mentioned creature, which is not "perfectly fit predator" and that's where I disagree. We have seen millions films with perfect creatures. Well, that's more unrealistic than stupid characters. I found this criple-monster very scary. Maybe because it's more real. IT IS MUTATION!

Sorry for my English. trying my best

The person who wrote this doesn't know anything about dealing with ADHD! I am an adult in my late 50s who was diagnosed about 15 years ago. I've dealt with something I knew very little about throughout my life. I can tell you this: Movies such as "Transformers" and hectically-filmed ones like that are NOT what most ADHD people respond to! Too much "busyness" is confusing and distracting, whether in life or on the screen. We can be overwhelmed by too much input; think of it as sensory overload when you include the music, sound effects and dialogue, especially the shouted/screaming type found in those movies you claim that ADHD people love and gravitate toward. You are wrong!

Many of us are capable of paying closer attention to films, down to the tiniest details, than you obviously can imagine. Yes, we can watch action films, but we're more than capable of enjoying, say, something from Merchant & Ivory.

I get very peeved at reading those shots at ADD/ADHD people here on IMDb. Learn about it before you start throwing around such claims. We are not stupid! We are capable of watching and appreciating all types of movies. However, many of us will admit that frantic films such as "Speed Racer" and the aforementioned "Transformers" can be just too much to stand; I actually have developed severe headaches while trying to watch some of these, something I have in common with a couple of other friends with ADHD. Consider that my favorite films include "Romeo and Juliet" (1968), "La Strada", "Diva", "All the President's Men", and "Jason and the Argonauts" (Sixties version, of course), while you won't find movies filled with car thefts/races/explosions/etc. on my "To Watch" list.

So, quit the ADHD stuff, please?! It's a major insult that we definitely do not need!
