Whaling...

Hey everyone!

Well, I haven't seen the movie yet, but isn't anyone of you shocked that she appears in a "pro-whaling" movie ? I thought she had great respect for animals (that's why she rejected buddhism, because they consider animals lesser beings than humans)...I'm a little bit confused! Share your opinions with me, thank you!!!

Why should anyone be concerned about another person exercising their freedom of speech? If I was opposed to something it doesn't mean I can't appear in a film about the topic - even one which was in favour of it.

I have also not seen the film, but is your view that it is pro-whaling because it contains ambergris? If so, fear not; ambergris is whales vomit which has been floating in the ocean for some time. You can not get ambergris from a living whale nor a whale you kill. Ambergris, in fact, is anti-whales because the fewer living whales in the ocean, the less ambergris there is to harvest.

I have the same feeling...I'm against whaling but understand (or at least try to) the cultural value of the tradition. I guess that's what Bjork and Matthew were trying to aim for - an appreciation for traditional methods and customs. However, there are many global traditions that need to progress so that they are appropriate for today's world.

Both of you are right...it was just a concern! you never know, people change their opinion sometimes. But she's still great, even though I can't really 'have a ball' ( ;)) for the "Drawing Restraint" Project!

Drawing Restraint 9 is anti-whaling!

!

Whaling is a metaphor for the oil industry.

Once upon a time whale blubber was considered precious material and whales were (and still are) ruthlessly hunted for their blubber and blubber ruthlessly consumed, and now, petrol (raw oil) has replaced blubber, and it's replaced blubber on an omnipresent unrestrained unlimited scale.
