It wasn't his ambition to place 1st, he did it out of love and respect for his teacher. I thought the ending was fine.

What other poker movies have done it? Just refresh my memory since it's been a while since I've seen anything other than Rounders.

*beep* poker movies. How about every other competitive sports movies where the protagonist has to go up against his old mentor and then buckle at the end out of sympathy/empathy for the old goat?

reply

Lucky You has done it

Lucky You let his father win but the father did not win the tournament.

I was more annoyed with the fact that he had aces. Why does it always have to be aces? This gives the faulty impression that:
a. Aces always win
b. You need aces to win
c. Good players win because they had the best cards.

reply

Yeah. Annoying.. aces are for tourists.
Plus Mike Sexton's line in the end was untrue. He said that Alex needs 3,4, pair of Q, pair of K or an ace to win, when in fact he could've also made a straight with 2-5 and beat JJ44A. That was also an annoying mistake.
Pretty bad movie in general. :-/

Sorry, but in order to win a WPT championship you have to get the best cards in the end.

You can't beat an allin player with a bluff. You need the better hand.

How else do you expect someone to win the final hand??????????

Please explain to me how the better player wins a final hand of a tourney without the better cards.

im pretty sure there would be a major controversy if this kind of thing happened in real life. i read a post from the main event this year where a guy didnt raise with the nuts and was assessed a 1 round penalty for it. i think its considered collusion when you dont raise with the nut hand. that being said, ales didnt have the "nut hand", which would have been quads. but with the hole card technology, i think the producer would have an obligation to tell the tournament director that a player folded the winning hand. would have to be considered cheating in my opinion.
