Big Goof

Anyone who watches the WPT on TV would know that the audience and the commentators can always see the players cards. So its a load of crap that we only see the players cards in the movie when he picks them up! And when Burt Reynolds is playing blind bluffs, we would defnitely know his cards even if he doesnt! I dont know how the filmakers missed that out.

reply

what do you mean "the audience and the commentators can always see the players cards"??

reply

they have these plastic places where the players have to put their cards, under those places there's a camera. so we can see their cards too

reply

Ignoramous Stafan,

of course the LIVE audience can not see the hole cards.
only later when it is televised do people at home know. Have you you ever been to see a final? then don't talk about what you don't know.

reply

Did I mention "live" you shmuck? I wasnt talking about the live audience. I was talking about the audience watching from home.

reply

Well, I'm going to have to say your both wrong haha...

when the first guy said Live audience, he didn't mean what you thought... previously the events were televised way after they ended... so by live i think he means that its not televised live- as in when it happens...

BUT this year, or from now on, it will be televised live...

reply

if you don't slide your cards over the pocket cam, you won't see it

reply

Yeah obviously. Im sure the players are always instructed to show their cards over the pocket cam - otherwise there would be no poker on TV!

reply

well u are missing one big point. every live broadcasting has delay of some 5 minutes. every game u see on tv has it. its just normal thing.

reply

All of you seem to have missed the fact that in the movie, the camera's are set underneath the arm rest ridge of the table and not under glass or a clear plastic screen on the table. So the camera's and the commentator's/TV audience would only see the players cards if they lift the cards up in front of the camera.

reply

stefan899, where you even paying attention when you were watching the movie????

The commentators in the movie regularly talked about the players hole cards, implying that there indeed was a "pocket cam" to show them the hole cards just like there is on most real life televised poker tournaments, but when Alex bet 2.5 million with his pocket aces, the commentator clearly said, "Vince I couldn't quite see Alex's cards when he bet the 2.5 million", as if the pocket cam didn't pick up his hole cards that particular time, which occasionally happens in televised games if the player doesn't properly show his hole cards to the pocket cam, either by accident, or on purpose.

In other words, the "Big Goof" which you thought you caught simply does not exist in any way whatsoever... although that scene did have other goofs which you did not catch.

reply

If you don't put the cards over the camera, then indeed, they're not going to be seen. I believe Erik Seidel is a well-known pro that for the most part, avoids exposing his hole cards at a final table.

I love to love my Lisa.
